Asus P4B266-no sound

I have a new Asus P4b266 that I can't get the onboard sound to work. I have loaded the C-Media drivers several times with no luck. The mixer icon appears in the tray, but when you click on it it gives the message "no mixer installed". Now the stupid thing is giving me the BSOD and stop errors. I would forget the on board and just use my old SB Live if I can get it to load Windows. I am not impressed. Ideas??
