I overclocked my system to FSB @150MHz w/ P4 Northwood 1.6A => result @ 2.4GHz or actually post @ 2399MHz
Vcore @ 1.675v
I can do everything, it has not crash once yet.
But occationally it will BEEP once out of no where (beeps come from the speaker connected to motherboard, not auido speakers through sound card)...
no pattern whatsoever...it just beep once...then again in 20 second...or 10 minutes later...
But I do notice it beeps more when I am watching videos using windows media player...
It doesn't beep when i run any benchmarks...including 3DMark2001 SE loops for 3+ hours...
Updated to the new bios v1002 beta 005

Beeping during...
1. reading Anandtech Posts (CPU temp = 30 C, System temp = 24 C)
2. watching videos...porn or divx...whatever (Max CPU temp = 35 C, System temp = 25 C)
3. DVD (CPU temp = 34 C, System temp = 24-25 C)
4. File transferring within local network (CPU temp = 31 C, System temp = 23 C)
So far...

Not relate to the temperature at all cause when i run 3dmark2k1 se CPU temp 40+ (no beep)
and video is only ~35 (beeps occationally)

No, it's your power. If you read the P4 overclocking article on Virtual-Hideout.net, you will see that when they had that problem and replaced the power supply with a powerful one, the beeping stopped and he could overclock even higher w/o beeping. Therefore, you need a new power supply :)

I had the same beeping problem with a 1.8a at 2.4ghz. I think it is the high temperature, that causes some kind of an alarm to go off on the P4B266-C. Some others have posted on here about that beeping as well. I switched to a 1.6a at 2.1 and the beeping stopped.

I think it could be the Vcore if you don't have the most recent BIOS.My system is the same as yours and if I went over 1.6v with the stock BIOS it would beep intermittently but once I updated to the current BIOS it won't do it unless I go over 1.7v.

Got the latest BIOs too...
I also notice when i do file transfer within my network...long tranfers...like 1GB+...beeping occurs...

OK then, it's still a power issue in my opinion, from what I've read. You probably need to voltage mod it with the wire trick and then up the voltage at that speed. Once again, check out the article at Virtual Hideout. He replaced his PSU with a 500 and something watt PSU and did the voltage mod, then upped the voltage and his problems were solved.

Give it a go...

OK, i read that part too...still thinking if i should do it...but what kinda of wire should i use for the wire trick? any suggestion...
or should i just use any wire...or does it has to be copper wires?

I'm not sure, just grab some wire from an old phone cable I guess and strip it down. I haven't done this mod myself as I will be ordering my 1.6A or 1.8A tomorrow. Though, I have read a lot about them, and that's why I was able to suggest this to you. I think it will probably fix the issue.

And if anyone has a suggestion on whether to go with the 1.6A or the 1.8A, please ring in over HERE.... I'm stumped :)

Let us know if this fixes your problem as well! :D

EDIT: Spelling.

The beeping is a signal that the CPU has throttled down to prevent itself from burning up...RTFM

The beeping is the thermal throttling, i have the same mobo. When the thermal throttling on the P4 exceeds a certain level, it will kick in thermal throttling which lowers the cpus clock until it cools down, then beeps again when it clocks back up to speed.

I read the thermal throttling some where too...but MBM reports my CPU never got to as hot as when i run 3dMark2k1 SE but it still beeps...it would beep around 30-35 degrees celcius usually...so i don't know...

Never trust mobo thermal diodes, they arent accurate. The thermal throttleing is controlled by a temp diode built IN the core of the P4, the beep is just a mobo feature that tells you when the clocks are adjusted by the TT.

MBM seems to be quite accurate...as from personal experience and many fellow ATers...but i know i can't trust it 100%...

hmmm, have you tried disconecting the speaker? ;)

in the manual it says...
"high frequency beeps during normal use = cpu overheated; system running at lower frequency"

Thugsrock...has this occur to your system since you are running @ such high FSB?
I really don't think the CPU is overheating because when the beeping occurs...MBM reports the CPU temp are always somewhere in the mid 30s...btw 30-40 C
I just ran another test of 3DMark2001 SE...no beep...

no beeping here - then again i dont have a speaker hooked up ;)
ive been benchtesting like a mofo for the past 3 days. my max temp has been 44*C and ive seen no signs of throttling. all benchmarks have scaled perfectly.

perhaps your problem is voltage?
ever think that its MBM5 that beeping?
i use asus pcprobe and i let it keep a log. its been logging nonstop for 3 days.

well...actually the beeping comes from the speaker connected to your motherboard...not from the audio speaker connect to your sound card...
so i don't think MBM is doing it...
I just ran Prime all night for 5+ hours...no error...no beeping...CPU temp MAX @ 50 C
Thugsrock, what vcore are you running @?

may as well turn down the speed because what good is it to push the fsb if the thermal circuit will just turn it down. I can easily hit 2.4G from my 1.8A but I dont see any performance gains cuz of the chip throttling down after I hear the beeps.

Peace dude.
