Hello,
This is my second p3 600 secc2 and it still isnt working worth a crap. I bought it from ac micro has anyone bought anything from them? Anyway, the motherboard will recognize the p3 as a 400 p3. I have only been able to get it to boot one time in 600. It wont play games in 600 or anything. It will work fine in 400. My system consists of sb live x gamer, 128 100fsb from Kingston and ultra 100 maxtor drive with a ultra 100 card. I am sick of screwing with this not to mention the 2 week wait in between order returns etc. any suggestions and I many any, would be helpful.
thanks

Did you try setting the clock speed using dipswitches? 6x multiplier and 100MHz front side bus. Wonder why people keep dissing jumpers, its a great thing.

Did you read the manual?
Have you set the jumper to jumper free or dip switches.?
Is the FSB in the Bios at 66 or 100Mhz?

That is generally a pretty good mobo, try this. Get out your manual and check the setting in the bios 1 by 1, go right down the page and set them.
If you are trying to use the jumper free mode make sure all the dips are off and the JEN jumper is on pins 2-3. The JEN jumper is down at the botton of the board by the ISA slot.

I just tried setting the jumpers it booted twice then I tried quake3 and it played for about 5 seconds and froze, then it wouldnt boot, the winme said there was a data error, then it wouldnt boot into safe mode etc. pain in my ass. It seems like it running hot but its cool even the chip itself is cool. I dont get it. It will boot at 400 and play quake forever.

what the hell is wrong with anandtech?

it's so heavily moderated we cant say e8ay - techb@rgains and several other keywords for some @#$!ed up reason or another, however this gentleman can comfortably say 'bullsh!t' as a subject in the main forum?

hello?

please be sensible with banned words, just WHY is e*ay, techb@rgains and other words banned?

You could've gotten a remark, a P2-400 SECC2 overclocked to 600 and sold as a P3-600. Im just guessing here, so I can be way off.

Did you so happen get a 600EB??? Wait, that could not be. If you were to get a 600EB, you would be running at 450Mhz instead of 400. Hmmmmm.....weird......

Hello,
Yes I tried another memory chip and still no avail/ As far as the p2 being overclocked I am starting to wonder myself. The mobo will automatically pick it up as a 400. If you try to set it to 600 it acts like it is overclocked too much and is on fire. If you leave it at 400 it stays cool according to the mobo temprature readings.

You say when it runs at 600MHz, it's "on fire"? Hmmm, you didn't happen to remove the HS/F and/or thermal compound did you? 😉

No i did not remove the heatsinks or fans, I hve plenty of ventilation and cooling. But the mobo temp gauge is saying the chip is extremly hot. And I have been around computers enough to sense if the chip is too hot. Blue screens of death, sysconfig malfunctions, etc. All the classic sighns that a chip is too hot or is overclocked to much.

That was the first thing I did last night. It said p3 600 running at 400 66fsb. which was what I was running. It wouldnt boot into 600. Thats why I cant figure this thing out. I still would appreciate any suggestions.

Strange indeed, maybe you should try a post over in the Technical Support forum. Without the bull$%@t line.

I will try that, and sorry the bullshi@ line Im just really tired and upset about this. I wish it were just a matter of plugging in a chip and getting what you paid for, but then computers wouldnt be as much fun.
