asus p3v4x (agp 4x)

Ive got a ASUS p3v4x, that 1 has a AGP 4x

In my agp slot is a ASUS V7100 (geforce 2 MX)tvout (this 1 could set to 4x agp) with the detenator drivers.

But when i check with a program called WCPUID, the AGP info says that my AGP is only 1x and 2x!!!!!strange

In the bios the maxium Agp is set to 4x

what is the problem????

AGP 4X is disabled in the Detonator drivers on Via chipsets. There is a registry hack that unlocks it. If you want it, E-mail me.

AGP4X on many VIA motherboards is unstable and tends to cause a lot of problems. In any case, the performance gains going from AGP2X to AGP4X are minimal if any.

Sorry, I do not understand what you are asking in the post above.

While AGP4X is a feature of the VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset, its implementation is not completely perfect (well, it IS Intel technology and not VIA technology), and tends to exhibit problems in some less well designed motherboards. The ASUS P3V4X is one of the better designed motherboards (if not the best) and usually does not have problems with AGP4X.

Even so, nVidia have chosen to disable VIA AGP4X in the drivers in order to maintain maximum stability and compatibility across ALL VIA motherboards.

My experience with GeForce2 GTS/P3V4X...AGP 4x is no problem and 100% stable. Make sure you enable in bios AND do the reg hack.

my experience is the opposite...my gts locks at agp 4x

The problem is that for AGP 4X, VIA chipsets do not auto-magically adjust the drive strength. With NVidia sending commands over the AGP bus, it can result in dropped bits thus hanging the card & system. Dropping back to AGP 2X solves this, and the performance hit is minor.
