An old FAQ, but you can go a little further than what the article says if you purchase a Slotket adapter designed specifically for Tualatin processors.

I have a P3B-F with a PIII750 in it and I'd like to put in a 1GHz PIII. However, the prices of those CPUs are INSANE! Googlegear is selling a PIII 1GHz Slot1 CPU for $265!!! WTF?! I guess since Intel stopped producing them and there are alot of slot1 boards still out there, the prices have gone through the roof! :| I'll wait until they are under $100...I don't care how long it takes. :|

Get a $20 Upgradeware Slot-T and a Tualatin Celeron 1.4 for $60. Set the FSB for 115 and you are cruising @ 1.6 GHz.

oldfart, are you sure it works on the P3B-F? Also, is a Tualatin Celeron faster than a PIII Coppermine @ 1GHz (100MHz FSB)? I lost track of PIIIs when the P4s came out. I have the 1008 beta 4 BIOS for the P3B-F, and if that Celeron runs without a hitch on the board, I'm buying one!

Also, where can I buy that Slot-T adapter? And what about the PowerLeap iP3/T adapter? How does that compare to the Slot-T?

Very sure since I set one up a month ago. ;). Its running 1.6 GHz @ default Vcore.

Tually Celeron is faster than a PIII 100 FSB. They both have 256K cache, but the Tually has data prefetch and the PIII does not. I've set up a couple PCs with the Slot-T. Works great and is a hella lot cheaper than a Powerleap.

Awesome! So with adapter, how do you set the voltage on the motherboard? Do you set it to whatever and set the adapter to 1.5v (I think that is the default voltage for the 1.4GHz Celeron) ?

Thanks oldfart for all the info!

There is a jumper on the Slocket for 1.5 (default). From there, you can adjust it in the BIOS. Its a very easy upgrade. Reset your BIOS defaults or clear CMOS. Drop in the Slot-T and CPU, boot up. No different than any other Slocket/CPU setup. This is nice since the P3B-F was one of the best slot1 boards ever made. 1.6 Ghz really perks things up. An ATA 100 PCI card and a fast HD is also a nice upgrade for one.
