I have an Asus P3B-F mobo that currently has an Intel P3-500, Slot 1, 100 Mhz-FSB CPU (Katmai). The BIOS is currently at revision 1006 which is the latest. According to Asus' web site, this revision will support an 850 Mhz CPU at a clock ratio of 8.5.

Intel makes/markets a Slot 1, 850 Mhz, 100 Mhz-FSB Coppermine CPU. Physically, it will fit. But...does anyone know if this board will actually support this CPU? The user manual only mentions a clock ratio of 8 although the manual is somewhat dated. Asus is very difficult to contact...emails never seem to get answered...

I will probably just buy the CPU and give it a try, but...if anyone has done this or knows for sure if it will work I'd appreciate hearing about it!!!

Thanks,

Larry

Why do you believe the outdated manual over the BIOS update? When the board came out there was no PIII850, or any Intel processor that supported 8.5 multiplyer. The manual doesn't say anything about it. I am sure you will be fine.

[Edit]And I bet you don't even need the updated BIOS. I have 1005 on mine and I can use a Celeron II 566MHz (8.5 multiplyer) just fine.[/Edit]

I ran a Celeron2 633 @ 950 MHz, using 100 FSB and 9.5 multiplier. Since the Intel multiplier is not changable and auto-detected by the BIOS on the P3B-F, you just need to get the latest BIOS. I use BIOS 1007 Beta 1.
