Asus P2L97 (LX) with 600+ mhz Celeron??

I have an Asus P2L97 board, which uses the LX chipset. I am wondering if it is possible to run a 600mhz or higher Celeron on this board (using an FC-PGA slotket obviously).

I have a few concerns: Jumper settings (for multiplier), and Core Voltage requirements.

Believe the new FCPGA Celeron2 defaults to 1.5v. Asus' website says the voltage regulator on this board supports 1.8 - 3.5v. Now I guess it should be OK to run the Celeron2 at 1.8 because I've done this with a Celeron 566A in a BX board to get it up to 850. So thats my first concern....

Celeron 600 runs at a 9x multiplier. Asus provides Jumper settings up to 7.0x (466mhz). This seems like a major problem to me. However some have suggested that the multiplier setting "doesn't matter", that the cpu will provide the proper multiplier to the motherboard so It doesnt make a difference what I set the jumpers too. This is the part I am having problems with...

Anyone out there have this board, or something similar that can advise on the feasibility of such a thing?

Worst case scenario is I buy the Celeron 600, if it doesn't work I swap it with my friend who has a C466 running in a Via133 fc-pga board which will surely work. But I'd really like to use the 600 in the LX board.

Thanks.

It works. Set the slotket to 1.80 volts as you have suggested.

You need not worry about the multiplier as a multiplier locked CPU will always ignore whatever setting the motherboard is sending.

Make sure that you have the latest BIOS to support later steppings...1010 Beta 003

The only concern that I would have with the P2L97 is that if you have a board PCB revision prior to 2.05, there are power supply problems to the AGP slot. Power hungry video cards such as the TNT and after are out.

I am aware of the AGP card problems with the P2L97. This board is one of those affected.. No worries im just gonna stick an ATI Xpert98 or something like that in there. Actually thats how I ended up with the P2L97.. It belonged to a friend who bought TNT card and found out it didn't work, I swapped him for an Intel LX board I had originally bought.

I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for the link to the BIOS.. didn't see that anywhere on the Asus site (they still have a dead link to a 1009 beta 3 bios). I'm sure that will be helpful.

i am also using the P2L97 motherboard. add the celeron 600mhz, 256 ram and a PCI voodoo card. this machine is good for everything again.

kimagurealex,

what jumper settings are you using on the P2L97? What slotket are you using?

Are you running it at 1.8v?

thanks.
