ASUS P2B won't recognize 40GB HD

I have a new Maxtor 40GB hard drive and 2 systems, one with an ASUS P2B motherboard, the other with a P2B-F. Neither will autodetect the new 40GB drive during bootup. In fact, both systems hangs when it trys. I'm not sure if it is a bad drive or that the motherboards have a problem with this size drive.

I found some info that mentioned supporting drives larger than 32GB might require a BIOS update. I couldn't find anything on the ASUS web site.

Has anyone on this forum worked with a P2B and a 40 GB drive? If you did, what BIOS did it require?

Thanks,
Rick

Did you check for jumper settings? Some times if they are single drives the jumper has to be differently from a Master setting. Cables correct?

Just update to the latest bios. I had helped a friend install a 45gig HD in his P2B-F last year and it involved flashing the bios. Sorry, don't remember which version.

Latest update for the P2B is 1014 beta2. Was just released the other day. The latest official asus release was 1012. I'm sure an update will fix your HD recognition problem.

BIOS revisions after 1011A for the P2B family support hard drive sizes greater than 32GB.
