I recently bought an IBM 75 GB Deskstar. My ASUS P2B-DS motherboard hangs during autodetection of the drive. Ive tried almost everything. Possibly someone knows something I don't and might be able to shed some light on this.

On another note I also tried to update my BIOS with the ASUS LiveUpdate because I run windows 2000. During installation i came back saying that it couldn't detect a ASUS motherboard. I can't seem to figure this one out either.

Any help would be apprecitated.

Thanks,

IS the drive's jumpers set to master? Which series is that IBM, if it is the 75GXP series then good luck getting that to work.

Dude, your system sucks!!!! You should get a new one, something that is high performance and kicks a lot of ass. Otherwise the only thing I can think of is that maybe it's user error and everything is fine with the hardware. LOSER!

What a schmeck...

frenzy776, if you really want to get the best performance out of that drive, and at the same time solve any use problems, you should look at getting an ATA100 controller card from Promise, Highpoint, etc. If you look around you can get one in the $35 range for a non-RAID card. I have an old P2B-F and run a promise ATA100 card with a 15GB GXP drive (used for a Net Gateway) and it works just peachy.

Good luck!
