ASUS P2B-DS + 133MHz FSB (or just BX in general)

Hi,

Can the above board do 133Mhz FSB? If not, does
anyone have pointers to good PIII SMP boards. The
BX chipset looks like its still the best choice
out there.

If I remember correctly, most revisions of the P2B-DS has settings only up to 112MHz, not 133. Supposedly ASUS left off the other speeds because the SCSI controller on the board didn't like out-of-spec bus speeds.

The P2B-D, latest revsion of the PCB, supports 133MHz FSB and Coppermines.
 

Alright, I can run the system at 100MHz FSB then. This board is
about 2 years old. Would there be any problems stuffing 2 800MHz
PIII CPU's in there? ASUS' site mentions 450MHz max, but as long as
its CPU's with 100MHz FSB I should be fine, right?

Regarding memory -- I've heard that the BX chipset will only cache
512MB of memory. Is that so? If that is the case then I will need to
get a new board anyway.
 
Check their BIOS pages, and flash it...same thing for my P2B-LS...said 450...when I bought my brand new 600, checked the BIOS update page, sure enough a BIOS flash let it read the new katmai chips (PIII's) just give it a peek. Flashed my K7V to 1006 and it runs my 700 tbird at 850...with a GFD...I will never buy an Abit again...now for ASUS to make a dual tbird mobo...maybe with Lan and/or SCSI RAID on board...🙂
 
arthurb: dont get too hung up on Asus, they have great boards, but god forbid you ever need support. Their support is non-existant.
 
They have no less than Abit. It all about the dealer, I get mine at a local place for $5~10 more than online and they will take it back for a year...and get me a new one as soon as I walk in, I am there so much, since I build for friends and relatives, they know me by my first name and know that I would not jerk them around on an RMA. I have never had a mobo last longer than a year in my system anyway, they always end up in my little bro's or sold to friends...🙂 I upgrade too much...

Edit: You could get support. Just hope that your long dist provider runs a low rate to taiwan...😉
