As long as you have the most current BIOS I believe you can. I used a P3-450 on a ASUS P2B.

Revision 1.02 of the P2B does not have proper support for the Coppermine P3s, as it cannot supply the 1.65 volts required. The lowest the P2B rev 1.02 can send is 1.80 volts. This is fine for Coppermine processors. All you need is a slotket to manually set the voltage to 1.80 volts (as the P2B has no voltage adjustment) and also get the latest BIOS (version 1012).

I have the same motherboard and popped a 800Mhz PIII in thinking it was supported. Did I just fry my CPU??

No it shouldn't be fried. If you do not have revision 1.12 of the P2B which can supply the correct voltage to Coppermines, your system simply won't boot. No danger there.
