ASUS or DELL

I want an ASUS but I want good warranty support. i love how dell ships new parts for 3 years with minimal questions asked.

do i lose that if i go with an asus from say, newegg?

Asus.... all the way. Dell is good if you can find a good deal b/c asus doesn't really go on sale often. They are very well made. From what i've researched on notebookreview.com Asus, Fujitsu, and IBM get most of the top honors for quality.

Sager seems to be a great option for performance/price too

Yes, i plan to game. What about warranty support with Asus? Say, if my harddrive crashed would they replace it?

From the collective experience of my workplace, Dell tends to have a slightly lower build quality than most. We use Fujitsu now and they're pretty damn good, and have good customer support to boot.

As of right now, Asus has the only production laptop that has a built-in eSATA port. That is very cool! Unfortunately, it is in the 17-incher. If it ever trickles down to 15.4 or 14.1 I'll buy it!

Pretty sure Asus makes Dell's laptops, or at least they used to. Asus' actual models are definitely a step-up though. Main complaint on my Inspiron E1505 is the backlight on the LCD isn't nearly bright enough. Borderline unusable outdoors, totally useless without AC power. Lately the wireless craps out and can't be reset via driver. As for warranty, I just called Asus about replacing my mobo and their warranty/RMA service is definitely a notch down from pretty much every other company I've dealt with. No advance RMA, no option to replace, nothing.
