Hello all,

Just curious if anyone can help me with something. I recently bought a Geforce4 MX (Abit Siluro) and when I try to install it, I get a series of beeps (one good followed by 3 quick beeps) during boot-up. I am running a Hewlett Packard system with an Asus CUV-NT motherboard. There are at least 3 other people with the same problem (these people have HP's, not sure about motherboard). My current video card is a geforceII mx that runs just fine!! I have added more memory and a different soundcard. Everything runs just fine until I try and install the new video card. I don't think the power supply(185 watt) is the problem because another HP owner installed a 500 watt ps and he still got the same thing I am getting. I tried a 250 watt PS and got the same results as well :(.

I can't find any info on the CUV-NT motherboard at the Asus site or the HP site!! I have accepted the fact that the geforce4 will probably have to go back, but I want to know why!! hehe Any info. is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chappie:confused:

ASUS provides no support for OEM boards that go into HP systems. ASUS only provides direct support for retail boards.

I will see what I can dig up though.

I got 2 HP Pavilions myself (8670c, 8662c) both motherboards are produced by AsusTek also. What is the MODEL number on your's?? Also is it an Intel or AMD configuration? Does the motherboard support only AGP 1.0 or also AGP2.0 (did you receive the Geforce 2 MX with the system or you bought it too)?? Swapping the Conexant Riptide audio/56k modem I see... hmm how'd that work out for you?

Did you try looking for a Bios update from HP (I would think it would take some weeks before HP can sort out issues with it's motherboards and new graphics card) Send their Support service an email explaining you dilemma, it is fairly easy and they respond in a day. I cannot understand what the issue could be, do you know all the jumper setting on your motherboard??

My 8662c is a direct port of the Asus K7M SLOT A motherboard only with a different BIOS chip and no ISA slot
The 8670c is a port of Apollo Pro chipset motherboard P2V.

I had a Radeon 8500 that did not boot up properly on the 8670c, but I took out all the parts except RAM/CPU/VGA Card and it booted to the HP screen fine. It might take some work, but remove all expansion slot and IDE peripherals and try again.

A CUV-NT is a Socket 370 FC-PGA Intel Pentium III or Celeron supporting VIA Apollo Pro 133A motherboard.

Hello,

Thanks for the info guys....I'm not sure where to start so here goes.. I installed the geforceII mx card..it works great. The system came with an onboard nvidia vanta chip. As far as I know I am running my mxII card in agp 2 mode with no problems. I have had no problems with removing the modem/audio card that came with the system. I installed a nic and a SB 128 soundcard with no problems about a week after I got the system. About a week later I installed the mxII card, that was in December of 2000. There is a BIOS update to the system, but I am running WinXP and the instructions for the BIOS upgrade say I need to boot to DOS. How do I do that in XP?

When I installed the mxII card all I did was uninstall the onboard video, power down, and installed the mxII. Rebooted, installed drivers and 'voila!! No problems!! For some reason the Geforce4 card does not want to work....:(

KGB I'll try what you suggested tomorrow night. Andy, thanks for the info!!

Thanks guys
Chappie

If you need to get to DOS to flash the BIOS, simply download a Win9x bootdisk from www.BootDisk.com, and boot up from that to perform the flash.
