ASUS Model U3S6 USB 3.0 & SATA 6Gb/s Add-on card

Well I have 2 of the 3 components (Crucial SSD + U3S6). For motherboard I use a ASROCK Extreme. The ASS6 is kinda a piece of crap. It's even slower than my highpoint PCIe1 620A with the same drives. Only reason I use it, is that I don't incur a boot-up time penalty as I do with the highpoint. Since I only use it to connect a couple extra HD's, the speed issue is mitigated. I use the Intel ICH10R for attaching my SSD's. While the 6G/s cards show a few good read benchmarks, in all other aspects they are completely "infererior" to the Intel ports in real life usage.

I agree with adamantinepiggy. I had one and even with a mechanical drive, I could notice the performance hit. About the only thing I would advise hooking up to the SATA ports is an optical drive.

I have your exact same Mobo BTW.

I used this card and noticed that my OCZ SSD took a 20 MB/s hit compared to the onboard sata with the previous generation ports. If you are using an Intel platform, I suggest getting mobo with the sata 3 already on the mobo itself.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I was hoping I could get the add-on card to extend the life of my MOBOfr one more year while we all wait for the SATA III new boards to get the kinks out first. I want to buy my first SSD but want to get a SATA III so I wont have to get one when I upgrade my MOBO in Nov, 2011 (one year from now).
