Asus melt down RIVE BOARD

Sorry about the board, good thing the CPU works. In the light of the new PCIE NVMe SSDs, I may upgrade my mobo/cpu in the near future if I cannot get NVMe support. Lkm if interested if for whatever reason the current board does not work out.

Almost seems like an echo of last year's experience with the Sabertooth, Philly.

A lot of folks really like those RIVE boards -- well, now that I think -- I heard more about the MIVE boards. I don't see how you won't do just fine with the processor and RAM in the P9X79, though.

Times may have changed, but before reaching out to ASUS about my self-damaged Sabertooth Z77, I'd RMA's a board to ASUS in 2007. It was under warranty, and they turned it around in a reasonable amount of time.

Makes one think twice about shelling out for a top-end board, though.

Then again, maybe it WAS a paper-clip. I even worry about loose staples on my carpet and desk. Reminds me that I should run my Shark Navigator on the carpet tomorrow. Way overdue.

Also, in connection with the Sabertooth disaster, I'll say this: It DOES PAY dividends to go over the product with a magnifying glass just after purchase. But that's what got me into my trouble with the Sabertooth: I'd ordered an AsRock Z77 board, and the magnifier revealed -- not just BENT socket pins -- but worse. So I sent it back to the Egg, bought the Sabertooth in a bundle from an EBAy seller, and proceeded to damage that . . . damned . . . socket-pin -- which you know all about.

My P9X79 is working good, certainly not the same as a RIVe board, but for what i paid and got im happy.
I just picked up a Maximus III with bent pins on Flee Bay, cheap. Looks like an easy fixer and I have a W3520 I got for it.
I also got my other build going, mostly out of being board, I call it "Hey YOO" as I watching Breaking bad as I worked on it.

As the title says, my trusty RIVE has gone away up in a spark n puff of smoke.

ASUS will not warranty, as the purchase date was 12 of 2011. $500 board puff GONE!!

That's bad luck Cheeseman, should have brought an ASRock..

I just may next time, gonna wait no use buying a X99. If I do buy AsRock I'll buy there top board, I've had there lower end and wasn't impressed.

So . . . how does the P9X79 fall short?

Back in the Sandy Bridge days, some of us bought the P8Z68 boards and some of us bought the Maximus top-end. I could be wrong, but when I chose the cheaper board, I thought I saw a phase-power-design same or similar to the flagship.

What can't you do with the replacement that you could do with the RIVE?
