I plan to buy Asus Maximus VII Hero and place ARC-1883ix-12 into the first red (PCI-E 3.0 16x) slot.

Will this work without issues?

I expect it to, after all PCI-E should be a general bus that accepts anything with that interface. I have M2N32-SLI with an ARC-1231D-ML running perfectly fine as far as I can tell, though it peaks at 600MB/sec, which is why I want to upgrade.

I asked Asus about it. Being very helpful bunch, they responded with a very quick, "...we don't support third party devices that will cause damage to our products...".

No GPU for now. In the future I might utilize the second red PCI-E slot to hold a NIC expansion card, possibly. I don't see a need for a GPU there.

Anyone know of any issues that may cause, with Areca in one slot and PCI-E NIC (didn't even look if they make those) in another?

I've looked over the manual for the above MB and it does not explicitly say that PCI-E are for GPU only and it seems like there are options in BIOS to force CPU graphics if a GPU is inserted. I'll probably will go ahead and make the purchase in the next few days.

Thanks.

In my experience, it is hit and miss. I have a 3ware pci-e RAID card in a file/media server/HTPC. I've gone through several motherboards, and some will accept a non-graphics card in the first pcie-16 slot, others won't.

I have the MB now and my old Areca works in the first slot so I assume the 1883ix will as well.
