Asus Maximus - Installing Q6600 cpu - should it really be this tight?

I have the golden triangle in the position it needs to be. What concerns me is that it seems like I have to put quite a bit of force for it to lock. I'm sort of concerned that I'm going to crush the pins in doing so. Is this normal?

LGA775 stock coolers... makes you nervous doesn't it? ;)

The plastic pins and force necessary to click them through the MOBO makes many people nervous. It's pretty easy if you're doing it right. Best way is MOBO out of case. Lay on anti-static bag, flat surface, and push down one pin then it's opposing side pin. Repeat.

I hold my MOBO up at a slight angle, using one hand to push the pins, the other to push up against the hole (other side) with my fingertips. Hope that makes sense.

And to answer your question, yes, it's gonna be tight. Don't worry about crushing anything. Big thing is to make sure CPU is installed correctly and that all pins click all the way through. #1 thing LGA775 n00bs screw up is not clicking them all the way through and getting high temps due to poor thermal contact w/heatsink.

I just did it - seems different compared to amd processors as it usually was dropped into little holes. Seemed like I was going to crush the pins with this method.

I actually meant the cpu itself. Sounds retarded but it seemed like I had to put more pressure than I would like. I still have to go through the headache of installing a thermalright ultima 90 though :) I've got the bracket in. Half way there

Oh.

Yea closing the retention bracket bar requires more force too..
