Asus Maximus Formula - overheating?

x38 Board, Quad Extreme CPU, no overclocking.

In PC Probe, in a cool room, no load, 33 degrees C - setting off the alarm in ASUS Pcprobe - under some load, the NB goes over 45 and sets off the alarm as well.

I've been diligent with cooling everywhere else, and the case is a Lian LI PC-A70 with 6 fans (4 of them replaced with Scythes), huge Tuniq heatsink, appears to be good airflow through the case.

Is this a normla temp? Why then is the alarm set so low? What is a dangerous/bad temp?

Is there anything more that can be done to cool the MB and/or northbridge in an X38 board?

The root of your problems is that you are relying on crappy software to tell you what the temperatures are and then you are relying on that crappy software's idea of what are safe and unsafe threshold values.

Not too many people will use Asus PC probe, mostly because not too many people can use it without it crashing their system outright.

Use speedfan 4.33 is my recommendation for monitoring system temps. Asus PC probe FTL.

(and yes temps on the NB of up to 45C are perfectly fine. Up to 50C are OK. Go over 50C and you need to start getting more aggressive on your NB cooling, add more fans blowing on the heatpipes, etc)
