My Cooler Master HAF 700 EVO front Panel Power Button doesn't work (New Build).

Which pins do I short to confirm the problem is not on the motherboard? Thanks.

Correct. There's only 9 pins in a standard front panel header.

I think I know the process but to confirm, just take a flat head screwdriver or equivalent and lay it across the two pins and that should turn on the computer if the front panel header is working and I can move forward with assuming the issue is with my case front panel cable? Thank you.

Yes that will work fine. If you have a multimeter you can use that to test the button on the case.

Thanks. I don't have a multimeter and don't know how I would use one but I can always figure it out. I just don't want to return another case. The first one had a manufacturing defect and I couldn't install the power supply. I'll ask Cooler Master to send me the cable front panel kit if that is the problem and I can't fix it. Everything else is working great. I want to finish up the build, install the rest of my drives, clean up the cables and finish this build.

Smoking a cigar with some good wine. I will try ruling out the motherboard as the problem tomorrow. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

I shorted the two motherboard header pins and the computer started up. Looks like it is the case front panel cable on the case. Thanks.

Can you take a picture of the front panel connectors for the case? I tried looking in the manual but it didn't show much of anything.

Yeah so that should just slide right on. Man would be a shame if the button doesn't work. Does everything else work? Only thing I can think of would be that you shifted it to the left or right when installing, but if everything else worked that's likely not the issue.

Another thing you could try is just moving the connector up one row on the pin header, so your HDD LED plug goes where the power LED pins are on the motherboard pin header, and the reset plug goes where the power button pins are. This is not a long term solution since it causes you to not have a HDD LED indicator or reset switch functionality, but should work to turn the system on and have the power LED lit.

Also what is going on with your picture? It looks like there is severe grime and/or corrosion on the pin header. Does it need cleaned off with contact cleaner or more?

No, just an iPhone picture with a large crop taken with the motherboard in the case in poor light. Brand new, pristine motherboard. This isn't great but a little better. The previous picture just showed the letters better.
