I'm losing sleep over this one. It has it all IMO, plenty of memory for the future, plenty of power, connectivity, and (hopefully) plenty of oc headroom. Regardless if these options are needed now, it's there when you need it. Major appeal on this one. I'm sure it'll be built like a tank too.

If I can find them and they're under $500ea, I may do it. Crazy overkill but I'll prolly sell one off in a couple months. Price and availability are key. Also waiting for pricing on vanilla 5870 2GB, final Fermi info, and 5970 customs. I'll be glad when it's over..
 
These prices are ridicolous. 500 bones 600 or 800 US dollar even. ATI or Fermi 480

What now a GPU is worth 3 times more then a CPU ,,, sighs
 
Why so much power circuitry and yet a stock sized cooler?

Sure the heatpipes might be bigger, but that is still a tiny fan pushing the air.

At least they could have made this card "triple slot".
 
Good point, but it's probably good for air oc's for the mainstream oc'er. Those who'll take it to it's extremes are likley to put it on water anyway. I'd like to see if it'll do 1100MHz with stock cooler.

Yep, I am mostly interested in the water overclocks myself.

But How much does ASUS matrix HD5870 + a full cover waterblock cost in comparison to Bone stock reference HD5970?

I would think the reference HD5970 would be a far better value?

Yea price will prolly be the deal breaker. I'd love to grab a couple of these, but other options are prolly gonna weigh in too heavily. Till then, I'm dreaming about being like the dude in the video.. 🙂
 
From what I gathered, those won't hit retail until somewhere in late march or early april. You can get your hands on a HD 5870 Lightning from MSI though, which also oc's like a beast. Doesn't come with 2GB of ram though.

ASUS HD 5870 Matrix 2GB & ASUS HD 5870 "V2" Sneak Peek

A few hours ago, ASUS sent us some long-awaited information regarding the newest addition to their Republic of Gamers graphics card line and while we still don’t have a total understanding of actual performance, a clearer picture is beginning to emerge. Basically, this will be the top of the line HD 5870 series card from ASUS for the time being and it definitely has some specifications to back up its RoG status. Its core will supposedly operate between 890Mhz to 900Mhz (though changes may be implemented depending on GPU binning) while the memory will retain stock frequencies of 4.8Gbps (4800Mhz). For those of you already moaning at the lack of pre-overclocked GDDR5, all is not lost since ASUS has maintained the reference frequencies even though they have bumped the overall amount to 2GB. Many have been claiming that ATI’s HD 5870 has been held back somewhat by its 1GB frame buffer so it will be interesting to see what effect this has on performance.
