I just received a DDR3 kit I bought cheap last week (G.skill Ares 2.4gb DDR3-1866 CL9 1.5v). I bought them simply cause they were cheap and for a near future upgrade I plan to do.
I may be crazy but I want to hope and give Steamroller a chance so, for not so much money, I can buy a good AM3+ motherboard that will serve me well for a couple of years.
I narrowed it down to 2 models:
M5A97 r2.0 (102CAD) - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813131873
M5A99X EVO r2.0 (135CAD) - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813131874
Both have lots of features and are reasonably priced.
I never went CrossFire and still don't plan to so my quick guess would be to get the M5A97 and be done with it.
I currently have an ASUS M4A77D that I used to overclock my PII 955BE from 3.2 to 3.7 on stock voltage without a sweat. So I think the M5A97 would be equally good to get the same OC from my 955BE...and later throw in a Steamroller and enjoy the ride.
So, are they good boards?
