Hello, I am going to build a computer soon and I just wanted your thoughts on this mother board Asus M5A97 LE R2.0

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...040&CatId=7248

Here is what I have so far

CPU- AMD FX-6300
RAM- 8GB 1600MHZ- Not sure what brand yet
120GB SSD
1TB Internal HDD
PSU-Not sure
Case- Not sure but will be looking for a mid-tower/ATX
Graphics card -XFX 7850
Networking card-Might be adding one not sure yet

It has everything that I am looking for and at a good price. I will not be overclocking and just web browsing/youtube/gaming.

Has anyone heard about this motherboard and have any thoughts on it. Is ASUS a reliable brand for a motherboard.

The motherboard is ATX so will it fit into any ATX/mid-tower case

And lastly do motherboards come with any cables, there is no mention on the description.

It should be fine. Asus is generally very reliable. Yes, it will fit into any standard mid tower case. They usually come with a few cables, a sata and molex converter and sometimes others. This one happens to only come with two Sata cables however. Hopefully this helped you!

Thanks for the information. I am only planning on having an SSD and a HDD so 2 Sata cables is enough for me.

You probably need one for your optical drive also.

I forgot that. I have never built a computer so when I turn it on for the first time will the motherboard require an update or anything since I have heard some do require an update.

Depends on what bios version shipped with the board. According to the site, every BIOS since version 1006 will work with the FX 6300

FYI Incorruptible, I have the Asus M5A97 in a Coolermaster HAF 912 case. Great for cable management. Obviously great airflow. Using a Hyper 212 EVO to cool my Phenom II x6 .. does a great job.

Good luck with your build!

You plan to overclock?

If you plan to overclock I would go for a motherboard with beefier VRMs.

Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 (8+2 VRMs)
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 (8+2 VRMs)
MSI 990XA-GD55 (8+2 VRMs)
Asus M5A99X EVO (R2.0) (6+2 VRMs)
Asus M5A97 EVO/PRO (6+2 VRMs)
