I have recently connected my M4A785-M motherboards SPDIF optical audio output port to my home theater receiver.
When playing movies in any audio format, I will randomly hear a very painful and violent screeching/popping noise that comes out of my speakers at a very high tone and frequency.
This occurs much more often when my stereo detects a Dolby Digital signal, or DTS signal coming into it. However, it will also occur, just much less frequently, when the receiver is in a standard playing mode.
This renders the optical output effectively worthless. In order to isolate the problem I replaced the machine that is running my Asus M4A785-M motherboard with a different machine that uses a Gigabyte motherboard with an optical out. This gigabyte motherboard uses the AMD 770 chipset, whereas the Asus is using the 785G. Using the same videos and same software I have no problems using the optical out on my Gigabyte motherboard, which eliminates both the quality of the receiver and the quality of the optical chord as potential culprits.
I attempted to upgrade my audio drivers to the latest version for the Asus motherboard for the Realtek VIA VT1708S chip. I used both the drivers located on the Realtek website and the drivers available on the Asus website. With every driver I have discovered the same issue. Ive also upgraded the chipset drivers to the latest version.
I dont know what other steps I can do to alleviate this problem, although it appears that blame is squarely fixed on the Asus motherboard.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.
