OK, so... I order all those parts, and I wanted to salvage a few things off of my old computer... so, I get everything plugged in, power it up, everything works, nothing blowing up, good start. I let it start up past the BIOS option screen and then it comes to a black screen and tells me... "Reboot and select a proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". So, I assume it's not reading my DVD and/or my HD. SO, I reboot open up my BIOS and sure enough, neither are recognized. So, at this stage I have one IDE ribbon cable running from mother board to first the HD than the DVD drive.... so I unplug the DVD drive and reboot. So, it starts up and comes to the choose how you want to start windows mode, each option i chose had the same result... it would come to the loading Windows screen and reboot. BTW, on the Sony Vaio I was running Windows XP 32 bit. So then, I plug the DVD drive in and unplug the HD, I try to start it up with the mobo cd and it just comes to a blank screen. SO THEN, I pull out a newer DVD drive that is SATA and hook it up to my computer and plug the HD back in. So, I insert my Windows XP cd and it runs through all the loading of all the files and recognizing all the hardware and the last thing it says before going blue screen is loading windows. On the BSOD the error it gives me is "STOP 0x0000007B(0F78D2524), 0xC000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000" So then I reboot and try to start the computer with the mobo cd in and it gives me another error.

So... I know I probably gave a whole lot more info than really necessary but I wanted to put it all in there, and this is the first computer I've built, so, I know I may be doing some really stupid things or not understanding basics, but I'm trying to learn.

I don't have a disk drive ( a: ) connected, and I don't know if I need to have one in...? :|

The hard drive I am trying to use is from the VAIO, it's 120GB drive, and is not SATA compatible... if more specs on this are needed let me know. For the old OS I think I only had SP2 for XP.

Please help, I've been at this for a few days and I'd just like for it to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Zero your hard drive with a software program that you can usually obtain from Maxtor Support.

This software I have found works with any hard drive that I have used.

Once you have zero'd the drive then attempt to reinstall the OS.

If it fails again, there could be a hard drive issue. In most cases, that is what it is.

Hard drives are very cheap now days. Microcenter has the 1TB for around $99.00-129.00 (USD).

I went to the support center and your code is not listed: There are no documents that match your search for "stop 0x0000007b(0xf78d2524), 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000"

So I am basing my reasoning off of previous O/S issues.

Which leads to one more question; What O/S are you trying to install?

Thank you WildHawg,
I am trying to install the same OS (Windows XP) with the same SP, 2 that I had on the previous system.

I've never zero'd the hard drive before, and I'm not quite sure what I'd be looking for as far as what to download on the Maxtor Support page, I'll look again, but would I just put it on a CD and have it boot from CD?

Thanks again

MaxBlaster Software

Burn it to a disc and install from the the CD. The directions or prompts should guide you through the process. Zeroing the drive is not hard even though it sounds intimidating.

One other thougth comes to this old man's feabile mind, Have you tried to install using the bare minimum amount of ram? Sometimes a board may say it supports 8 gig of ram but your OS will only support say 4 gigs of ram. Win Xp 32 bit does not fully support 4 gigs but will accept and show only as 3 gb of ram in the O/S system. I would use 2 gigs to being with.

WINXP 64 bit or Win Vista 64 bit supports 4 or more gigs of ram.

For example: In my system, I had win XP 32 bit and if I attempted to put 6 or 8 gigs of ram, it would crash immediately. However, if I put 4 gigs or less, it ran nice( note: the system bios reported 4 gigs of ram but the O/S reported only 3 gigs of ram). When I upgraded to Win Vista 64 bit, I installed 6 gigs of ram and it runs awesome; however, the board states it will run 8 gigs, I have yet to get it to run off 8 gigs of ram.

(NOTE):
Check for BIOS updates. If you are running into a hardware limit of an older ATA or SATA controller, there may be a downloadable update for that controller.

OK... sounds easy enough I think ;)

I only bought 4 gigs cause I knew there was a limit on how much XP could handle...
and I did try removing extras... I tried running it with 2 gb ram in, and I tried running it removing my 1GB graphics card. Same results.

That was my last idea that I was going to try to attmpt was to try and update the BIOS, I didn't know if it would do any good but that was my next step, I've posted on a few forums and you're the first to get back to me. I wasn't sure what to install though, there were a lot of available downloads for my motherboard. :|

My hard drive is 120 GB I believe ATA, it uses the ribbon cable.. IDE? cable so, would I look for an update that addresses ATA plug in?
