SO... I had an old Sony Vaio... PCV-RS510.... it was a piece..... and I needed to upgrade... long story short I fried the power supply and ended up buying a new case, motherboard, CPU, ram, and graphics card. SO... here are the specs for what I just bought and put in the case.

OK, so... I order all those parts, and I wanted to salvage a few things off of my old computer... so, I get everything plugged in, power it up, everything works, nothing blowing up, good start. I let it start up past the BIOS option screen and then it comes to a black screen and tells me... "Reboot and select a proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". So, I assume it's not reading my DVD and/or my HD. SO, I reboot open up my BIOS and sure enough, neither are recognized. So, at this stage I have one IDE ribbon cable running from mother board to first the HD than the DVD drive.... so I unplug the DVD drive and reboot. So, it starts up and comes to the choose how you want to start windows mode, each option i chose had the same result... it would come to the loading Windows screen and reboot. BTW, on the Sony Vaio I was running Windows XP 32 bit. So then, I plug the DVD drive in and unplug the HD, I try to start it up with the mobo cd and it just comes to a blank screen. SO THEN, I pull out a newer DVD drive that is SATA and hook it up to my computer and plug the HD back in. So, I insert my Windows XP cd and it runs through all the loading of all the files and recognizing all the hardware and the last thing it says before going blue screen is loading windows. On the BSOD the error it gives me is "STOP 0x0000007B(0F78D2524), 0xC000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000" So then I reboot and try to start the computer with the mobo cd in and it gives me another error.
So... I know I probably gave a whole lot more info than really necessary but I wanted to put it all in there, and this is the first computer I've built, so, I know I may be doing some really stupid things or not understanding basics, but I'm trying to learn.
I don't have a disk drive ( a: ) connected, and I don't know if I need to have one in...? :|
The hard drive I am trying to use is from the VAIO, it's 120GB drive, and is not SATA compatible... if more specs on this are needed let me know. For the old OS I think I only had SP2 for XP.
Please help, I've been at this for a few days and I'd just like for it to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
