ASUS M2NPV-VM goes to sleep - permanently

Hi all,

I've built a new computer for a Grandson (aged 12) with an ASUS M2NPV-VM mobo, an AMD X2 5200+, Sapphire HD8600XT, 2GB Corsair DDR2 5400, one WD SATA 160GB HDD, and 2 DVD-RWs. The PSU is an Ultra 550W X2-Connect that I used without trouble for about a year. It's all housed in an Antec P160 case.

It has been running fine with little or no problem, EXCEPT, it seems to just quit running after 1-2 hours or so when I leave it alone. It quits after I leave - I never see it stop running 🙂

I have set the power options in Control Panel to never go off, yet it goes off. I have gone to the BIOS and see an item under power called "ACPI Suspend Type," with 3 options: S1(POS), S3(STR) and S1&S3. The default appears to be S1&S3 so I haven't changed it yet, but I feel as if that may be the source of my problem.

Can anybody out there give me some help on this?

Thanks, Noel

Since no one answered, I tried the S3(STR) option and the computer now keeps running OK. Not sure why that should make a difference, but it seems to, so I'll leave it that way 🙂 At least until someone tells me why I should change it.

Noel
