I have the asus m2n4-sli with dual corsair ddr2 ram and a sapphire x1550 ddr2 pci-e video card. I've had this setup for almost a year, and it worked fine. Then, the other day, it decided to stop booting and just beep. When i press the power button, nothing comes up on the screen, and i get 1 long beep, and 2 short beeps, and then the beeping pattern repeats.

I've read some other forums, and the 2 most common suggestions were that it's either the video card or the ram that's gone bad. I've tried swapping my memory sticks. I've tried booting with just one memory stick. I've tried just taking out and replacing the ram. I've tried booting without any ram installed. I've also tried booting without the video card installed. I've taken out the video card and put it back in. I always get the same beeping sequence. One time, i removed one of the sticks of ram, and the computer seemed to be booting fine, but i had the hard drives disconnected at the time, so i got the Disk Failure message. I turned off the computer, plugged in my hard drive, booted up....same beeping again!#!!

Any thoughts/suggestions?? Thanks a lot!!

PS. Unfortunately i don't have access to any spare ram or video cards.

That beep code is a videocard message.
Most likely the videocard is fried.
Naturally it will give you the same message without a videocard because...there is no videocard.:D

How do i figure out what bios my board is using without it booting up? And where do i find what the beep codes are for that bios and mobo? There is nothing at all in the mobo user's guide about beep codes.

I believe that motherboard uses the award or EZ bios. The beep code for video with those bios(s) are one long two short. Generally you just do a search to find what bios your MB has and then search for "beep codes".

Pheonix (Award) BIOS use the same code, so no matter what board or BIOS version you have, the beep code is the same. These fine gentlemen are correct in their assessment, one long and two short = video error.

I don't think it's the video card. I just took out all the components and disconnected all the cables. Then i connected back one hard drive, and reseated the same video card that i had in there. I pressed power on, and the computer booted up just fine. Then, when it got into windows, i tried opening up Firefox, and it froze. So i restarted the computer. After that, it gave me the same beep code on boot up and i couldn't get it to boot back up again after that. So i think this implies that the video card is ok?? Any other suggestions? Could it be the motherboard, although it's pretty new?

Another weird thing i noticed is that there's some kind of high-pitched noise that is coming out of the motherboard. I'm not sure if it was there before and i just didn't notice it, or if it started happening after the computer stopped working. But it is definitely from the mobo, because when i disconnect that 12 pin cable that connects from the power supply to the mobo, the sound stops.

Do you guys still think it's a video card issue? Thanks.
