i ijust installed vista on my comp and when i try to install the driver for the motherboard onn viista, the only available driver is theh audio max. i dont have the chipset one. however, it did appear one time and i inistalled it. i restarted and nothing happened. i can connect through lan and it always tells me im disconnected when clearly i ihave a cable plugged in. however, theres no light on the ethernet port on the back of the mobo. any help?

It's very possible that Vista comes with the drivers for your board, but maybe not the best driver for your LAN. Check ASUS site to find out what IC is used on the board for LAN (usually Marvel or Realtek), and download the latest drivers just for the LAN. Vista upgrade might or might not find a better driver so it's not very reliable. Your best bet is to find the latest drivers for the LAN chip the board uses.

I have the same motherboard and I've installed whatever vista gave me, but I've uninstalled the nvidia ethernet driver which didn't let me use some websites (took me days to figure this one out). Try to remove the ethernet driver and check if the lan is activated in bios and it is possible that you internet provider has some problems .

You should reset it but I doubt it will make any difference. Are you sure your internet provider has no problems at all? When the light of the ethernet port on the back of my motherboard was off, it was because my internet provider had some problems with the network.
