Hi Asus laptop owners!

I'm thinking about getting a new Asus laptop, probably the A8 with a 14" widescreen, X2300, Core 2 Duo. However, I'm not very familiar with Asus notebook computers in general and I was wondering if some of the owners can chime in on with comments or comparisons with previous laptops they've had.

On a sidenote, between X1600, X2300, GFGo 6100, and GFGo 7700 which is the faster GPU?

Go 7700 >> X1700 = X1600 > 7600Go >>> Low end cards (ie: X1400, X2300) >>>> Integrated Graphics

I have a W3J which has performed fantastically. Remember that the A8 series is considered the value line and so much of the chassis is plastic and the screens may not be as good.

the A8JP with the x1700 is a much better value.
I would wait one more week for the santa rosa release and see how far away we are to the dx10 cards.
I am hoping they will do a refresh on the a8 series with 8600 cards, and may be up that 0.3 megapixel webcam to 1.3mp

I have been using an Asus Z70Va for a year and a half now and its been a pretty decent laptop, but I have a few complaints that should have been fixed. The main complaint being the noise it makes, after being on for an hour or so on battery, the fan kicks on and it makes a lot of noise, this is quite annoying and I would prefer to have a silent laptop. The reason this problem occurs is the casing is carbon fiber which traps the heat in, if this weren't the case it would be nearly perfect. Also the battery life could be a lot better and the main battery needs replacement after 1.5 years which is lower than what I would have expected (its wear level is at 60%, I have a second modular bay battery, but with 2 batteries I only get 3 hours of battery life). Asus does build a nice product though and I would probably buy another one if I wasn't considering a macbook. Asus tends to use fairly high quality materials and they build the casing for a lot of the bigger companies such as dell and apple (new macbooks are being made by asus, I believe they did some of the older ones as well.)
