Asus laptop iSSD problem

I have an Asus S56CM laptop with 1TB HDD + 24GB iSSD. It recently started to have some problems with slow boots and resuming from sleep. (while booting Windows 8, it would hang for 3-4 minutes then boot fine)

After searching for a while, I narrowed it down to a faulty iSSD. (it wouldn't show up in BIOS or in Windows Disk Management...) I took the laptop apart and removed the iSSD, which seems to have resolved the problem. (also uninstalled the ExpressCache software...)


Anyways, should I bother with replacing the 24GB Sandisk iSSD? I don't see much difference in performance with it out of the system, and would rather not have to send it to Asus.

Can you RMA the iSSD ? Maybe then you can sell it 🙂
I wouldn't bother with replacing it. The only thing you would notice a speed improvement would be stuff that is very frequently accessed over & over again.

im not familiar with iSSD, is that mSATA form factor?

I would replace it with a 128gb drive and install my OS to it.

It's mini-PCIE and half-height I think... Anyways, after reading some more, they seem unreliable and kinda useless. I just took it out and won't be replacing it...

At least on the S56 model you can take it out. The UX32 has the same iSSD, but soldered onto the motherboard, so when it goes bad you have to swap the mobo to get rid of the long boots.
