I am looking at buying this motherboard
http://usa.asus.com/products.a...model=1530&modelmenu=2
with two AMD Athlon 64 FX-74, Socket F (1207), 3.0GHz Core CPU?s

I have a few questions thou.

Will I be able to replace these two CPU with the new AMD Quad Core CPU?s when they are available?

I want to put 4gig of RAM onto the board, so would 4x 1gig modules be better than 2x 2gig modules. If I do use 4x 1gig modules will I still have a command rate of 1T?

What memory would go well with this motherboard?

Is quad SLI really an option on this board?

What psu would work for this board? I will be running SLI (2x 7900gtx;s to start with as I have them already) and 8 HDDs

Yes you can. The new AMD's will be on AM2+, which processors is available to use on simple AM2.

2x2 GB is better choice because upgrading.

All the PC6400 un-buffered memory.

Probably not :
Support two identical NVIDIA SLI-Ready graphics cards

800-900 or more Watts is enough, i think. :)

Are you sure this setup is really a good idea?

Basically, this is a $900 rig ($300 L1N64-SLI WS + 2x $300 FX-74) that gets outperformed by a $500 rig ($200 EVGA 680i mobo + $300 Q6600) in gaming and almost everything else.

That aside, quad SLI is probably an option because two 7950GX2 cards would be considered "two identical NVIDIA SLI-Ready graphics cards". There is no such thing (at this point) as running more than two cards in SLI. Quad SLI is achieved by running two dual-gpu (7950GX2 or 7900GX2) cards, however these cards are really starting to dry up as they have been out of production for a while now.

uhuh... is the date format on this site mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy?
either way, im resurrecting an old post here
but Wicked Akuba, you really have no clue what you are talking about.

1) this board is socket L1 (renamed socket F for the quadFX platform), not AM2/AM2+, and the OP wasn't asking about AM2+ quads anyway.
this will not run any desktop CPUs, only the special quadFX CPUs are supported officially. future quad-core quadFX chips will work.
non-officially, normal opteron socket-f 22xx series dual-core chips have been found to work, and i hope the future 23xx quad-core opterons will work too.

2) no, 2x2GB is not better - 4 dimms is optimal for this board, as each CPU has two dimm slots connected to it that it can use in dual-channel.
your upgrade ability advice is sound, but still it should be noted that the performance will suffer until he does the upgrade to 4x2GB.
