Hi have had this board along with the rest of my setup A64 3200+ 754, 6800GT, WD 80 GB, 40 GB, 2GB setup for many years and i received a problem last night where the bios will not proceed after hardware detection. So on bootup it will not get past the K8V SE post screen.

After several cmos resetting attepmts i found out the culprit was the WD 80 GB, but i dont know why. I was preparing the HD for a reformat using USB bootable acronis rescue media specifically software of Disk Director suite 11. I had set it to NTFS but it also had a hidden partition which i did not expect because this HD was bought solo and was not part of any system. So i deleted that partition and comitted full format of HD. After i was done it automatically restarts pc and there is where i am stuck. As long as this HD is connected to the system, mobo refuses to proceed past Post.

Due to this i was hoping i could update the bios and see if this will go away but for some reason i cannot boot off anything, I first tried the included CD of the mobo to try resetting bios and it will not boot from it nor from the floppy that has the bios update content.

EDIT: bios version if the first one 1001

Really stumped here and would appreciate help

tia

ok well i took the faulty harddrive into this comp to see if i can try to reformat it and the same symptons came to this pc (P35-DS3l+Q6600) except i could get into bios setup, however it was really slow getting out of the post screen and nothing will boot at all either. I really dont know how i can recover this HD, if i cant seem to boot. I was planning to use that media for reformatting other HD but now im skeptical about Acronis quality that has really gone down in a few years.

good news. looks like i wrote acronis off too soon, to get past the K8V SE post screen i had to have the HD disconencted to get past post, then when acronis media is loading i connect it. acronis is able to detect and read the Hd (i tried with WD floppy utility but crashes when performing any operation) then i just use their recovery expert utility to get it back to pre-disaster form. Deleting that hidden partition was the problem (which in prev versions i had never seen before), their software should give some warning signs for this or recreate the boot files automatically.
