Ok I finally got my new A64 system built about a month ago, but I didn't have a lot of quality components at the time, and I ended up selling some of the lesser parts, yadda yadda. Originally, the system was quick, I mean quicker than any other system I had worked with. Even with 128MB of DDR that I put in it just to test the memory, it ran like a fox.
Since then, I've rebuilt the system into a new case. All the components are the same, except for the case (obviously), an AGP 4x 32MB vid card instead of the PCI card I was using for testing, and I sprung for some really nice Corsair and Kingston DIMMs. It boots quickly, don't get me wrong, but even with 384MB of RAM it seems sluggish. Not overly so, but programs lock up frequently and switching between programs is sometimes very slow.
I guess what I'm asking is did I do something wrong? All my parts are compatible. Did I possibly damage the mobo when moving it to a different case? I've scanned for viruses/spyware, and done all my usual troubleshooting, and I'm at a total loss. Just kinda frustrating seeing your shiny new system struggling with Outlook
Any help is welcome. I'm justinian1978 on Yahoo! IM.
