Asus K8V SE Deluxe doesn't like SB Audigy?!

So, I finally jumped into an A64 setup. I got the Asus K8V SE Deluxe and I've heard great things about it. I go to install it and it seems to boot fine, however I can't install Windows XP for the life of me; it keeps locking up! After a couple reboots, I notice the settings in the BIOS had reverted to default. Odd.. so I check the BIOS, and I see it still has the first revision -- so I upgrade the BIOS to the latest. Uh oh. Now the PC won't post -- no video, nothing. So I yank the CMOS battery, and clear the CMOS. Reboot, then viola.. the PC boots. Great! Halfway through boot, it reboots itself and I get the same problem.. no POST.

Long story short, I found if I yanked my SB Audigy everything (seems to) work fine. I know the Audigy is fine, as I've used it in various other PC's with no issue. I've got no problem picking up another soundcard, as I've been eyeballing an Audigy2 for quite some time; I just need to make sure it's not going to have the same problem. Anyone else have any issue with Creative soundcards? It really sucks being left with the on-board audio. I have a nice 5.1 THX speaker setup, and I can't really use it like it was intended.

I'm tempted to just toss the Asus and get a DFI. I'm partial to DFI, I had a nF2 Ultra and it was quite possibly the best board I've ever owned -- I didn't have a single problem, and everything ran like a champ. But, I've heard people having issues with the Socket 754 DFI's.. so who knows. *shrug*

Is the Asus really as good as I read? I really don't care how well it overclocks, I'm over that.. I just want the thing to be rock solid.

* Note: Yes, I did swap the soundcard into different slots. I broke the PC down to barebones, with the same result. The only other card I have in the system is an ATI Radeon 9800XT.

Ugh, screw it. This board apparenly just sucks.. I went ahead and picked up a Gigabyte K8NS Pro and everything is running perfectly -- like a dream.

The A8V SE apparently likes to reset it's BIOS settings to default at random. Plus, I have to clear the CMOS everytime I reboot, else I get no video. Go Asus, go! This is my first and last Asus board I'll ever own.

Out of curiosity, which PCI slot were you putting the Audigy in, and were you using the onboard-yet-PCI-based Promise SATA controller? Asus doesn't put IRQ-sharing charts in their manuals just for fun ;)

I tried each and every PCI slot. And no, I wasn't using the onboard SATA controller. The Audigy problem is the least of my problems. In between needing to clear the CMOS between every reboot and having the BIOS reset to default whenever it feels like it, I think it's safe to say that the board is either a) bunk or b) junk

I'm attempting to get it RMA'd, however, it won't be to keep it.. it will be to sell it. I had the PC down to a simple configuration, there was no reason for it to be acting like it was.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
2x512MB Corsair XMS3500C2 (tried with 1x512)
ATI Radeon 9800XT
1x160GB Maxtor 7200RPM 8MB Cache
Antec TruePower 550

That's it.. simple setup. Oh, and God forbid I try to upgrade the BIOS. We won't even get into that.. like I said, it could just as well be a bad board. Who knows. But it sent my frustration level through the roof.

I have this board and had a few issues on the first board that I got. I RMA'ed it and everything installed fine. But, you couldn't use the Audigy 2 with the Promise controller. You could use one or the other, just not both. That was how it was after numerous reinstalls over the past few months. For kicks, I decided to try a DVD drive on the promise controller and the damn thing actually works now. I haven't done anything different, but it appears to work. Its a decent board with a lot of extras, but I swore years ago to stay away from Via (which, at the time, meant I stayed away from AMD). And after the difficulty with this board, I am swearing off VIA again.

Another issue with the board is that after either suspend mode or hibernation, the ethernet card doesn't work. It will actually keep a connection but won't go more than a few bytes per second....so its worthless. Since I am on a domain, I can't use either power save mode now. Stupid crappy onboard ethernet. Oh well, most things work now, so I am just leaving it be.

OMG, its like you guys are reliving everything I have experianced with this board!!!

The A8V SE apparently likes to reset it's BIOS settings to default at random

GRRRR!!!! that happens to me frequently. I also have been having some trouble with the SATA stuff on teh board.

Another issue with the board is that after either suspend mode or hibernation, the ethernet card doesn't work. It will actually keep a connection but won't go more than a few bytes per second....

yes, i have experianced this also. Using a wireless card and after return from syspend it is messed up. have to disable then reinable device.

If anyone has had problems with the SATA controlers on this board please let me know. I have a 200gig sata drive that still functions, just crashes my pc when I have it connected to any of the sata ports.

I'm confused. I'm seeing two boards discussed here. The A8V and the K8V. I own the K8V Deluxe board and I also have the SB Audigy, and I am having no problems.
