Great forum! My first post is about suffering: My new system is:
ASUS K8V M/B with AMD 64 3000+ (at 2 .0 GHz)
ASUS V9650 (nVidia) graphics adapter (Geforce FX 5600)
1 GB of Kingston DDR400
Windows 98 SE
Monitor: Nanao T2-17 CRT
Latest drivers for all hardware installed (ASUS drivers version 52.16 for V9560 graphics adapter)
System didn't get through full Windows start-up (hung midway) until I installed the newest ASUS V9560 graphics drivers (v52.16). Now system runs but offers only a max refresh rate of 100 Hz. Also, it crashes as soon as I try to access any of the nVidia-specific display properties under the tab "GeForce 5600".
What's to be done? I'd much appreciate your kind advice!
Instead of the ASUS graphicsdrives, should I rather install the nVidia reference drivers? Or is the problem with the ASUS K8V M/B? Or the combo of M/B + V9560 graphics?

Problem solved! Do not use the driver on the supplied CD-ROM. Do NOT use the updated driver from the ASUS website. Rather, use the nVidia reference driver (for FX 5600). Windows boots fine. Program does not crash any more.
