I have been reading and it seems like this board DOES have a problem trying to set up some types of hard drives.

What I have for a hard drive is a Enhanced IDE Wsetern Digital Caviar SE 120 GB Model # is WD1200JB.

What I am confused about is what type of drive is this I am trying to install ... is it an ATA? SATA?

Then I am also confused where on the mother board the ribbon cable should go for this hard drive. Right beside the CD Rom cable ... Blue one ... or that other Red socket on the mother board? Is the Blue one the raid controller and the Red one SATA controller? ... I'm lost.

What a pain this is .... I'm at it now for about 12 hours !!!

This is what I get so far ... during boot up ... does not detect any drives .... but for some reason eventually boots. I managed to get window's XP pro installed and it runs ... so it does find the drive. Just doesn't boot properly .... what can I do to get this working properly. Don't tell me I have to start all over again ! YIKE

If the WD dirve is the only drive on the cable remove any jumper from the drive. WDs are funny that way sometimes.

I'm not familiar with your board, but normally the blue connector on the 80 conductor cable goes to the blue IDE slot on the mobo, red slots are normally for a RAID controller. Disable the onboard RAID contoller in the bios if you are not using it.

The logical place would be the Primary IDE connector. It's the blue connector at the top right of the board, the top of the two blue connectors there.

In the BIOS setup, you may want to disable the RAID boot ROM (which is the VIA RAID controller) and the Promise raid controller, which will speed up your POST a lot.
