Asus k8V deluxe and Via 4 in 1 drivers....what version?

Hi there,


I finally got my k8V to post into windows but here begins the fun of what all to download for my k8V deluxe mobo.


Some important notes here......

1) I ONLY have drivers and Bios from my asus k8v installation cd (retail). I have downloaded NOTHING from the internet. ONly original asus cd drivers.


2) I am ONLY using ONE EIDE (pata) WD 800JB SE HDD

3) NO raid or sata drives are running in my system so I don't need those drivers yet.



Ok so what bios and drivers do I need to upgrade? What version of the vias are the best? most stable? most stable bios? other?

Emosh,
Go to the Asus website and see if your running the latest bios. If your not follow the directions on the site and update them to the latest version. I'm not sure if your cd provided you with the latest drivers but check and see what version you installed from the Asus cd and upgrade as needed.

I know that but my point for this thread is which ones to get?

1005 bios or 1004 bios?

I just wanted to know what version via 4 in 1's you guys are using? best ones?


anything else I am forgetting?

i'd just go get the latest ones.

I'm running the 1005 and what ever the latest drivers are and everything is running great. There are some threads out there on the board (one here at anandtech under the motherboards threads) you should check out.

I have version 1003. Asus' website says the following:

"**Please flash BIOS using K8V1005.exe, and do not flash from 1001, 1002 or 1003 to version 1004 through EZFlash/AFUDOS/LiveUpdate** "

Can you tell me what k8v1005.exe does? I can't find any info on it and I'd rather not find out the hard way what this file does. Do I copy the files in the bios download to a bootable floppy then run k8v1005.exe from the floppy? Any help would be appreciated.
