Hello everyone,
I recently upgraded to an Asus K8S-MX motherboard (SIS760GX chipset) with a S754 A64 3400+. However, I am having massive video issues while gaming. I use an EVGA Geforce 6800NU as my graphics card. I have only tried 3DMark05 and Halflife2 since upgrading but both have massive video artifacts that pretty much make them unplayable. My system is totally stable other than in gaming. I use WinXP /w SP1. I have tried several different versions of Nvidia drivers. I have used driver cleaner to try to clean up old driver files. I have tried installing different versions of my motherboard chipset AGP drivers. I have upgraded to the latest version of the motherboard?s BIOS. Nothing seems to make a difference. I am going to attempt to reinstall windows again if I can?t come up with an explanation. Has anyone else encountered this type of problem with this motherboard? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, the video card was used in my old system. An Asus A7N8X with Athlon XP 2500+. I reinstalled windows and only installed updated Nvidia Drivers. 71.25 version. I am getting fewer artifacts while gaming, but it is soooooooooooo slow. VERY choppy in HL2. I tried running 3DMark 05 and I am getting 1892 3DMark score. I have a Geforce 6800NU with an Athlon 64 3400+. That seems very low to me. I have no other options left at this point. I guess SIS chipsets just suck...

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just yet.

Now that you have re-installed Windows make sure you have the latest AGP drivers from www.sis.com.

I downloaded the latest AGP drivers from sis.com However, when I install them, the performance improves, but I get MASSIVE visual aritifacts while playing HL2. Basically making the game unplayable. But I can tell that it does perform better. (but that might be because it isn't rendering any of the frames correctly). So, I didn't install any AGP drivers either the latest ones from sis.com or the ones on the CD that came with the motherboard. I am just using the default windows drivers. The performance SUCKS, but they don't render any frames incorrectly.....

Ok, here is the deal. I also switched to a more powerful powersupply from the one that was in my MicroATX case. I thought that maybe it wasn't putting out enough juice for my Geforce. It didn't help. But here is the deal with the drivers. If I just use the default windows AGP drivers I get 1892 3DMark score. However, if I install the AGP drivers from the CD that came with my motherboard, I get 3949 3DMark score. However, there are lots of visual artifacts like I mentioned above. I also tried the latest AGP drivers from the sis website and I get the same result as the ones from the CD. The only thing I can think of now is that I might have damaged my Geforce while moving it from my old system to my new one. I am going to reinstall the geforce back in my old system and see how it performs. If it works fine then it just must be a problem with the SIS chipset motherboard.

Still nothing is working. I get the same results in UT2004 too. A lot of visual artifacts appear after only a minute or so of gameplay.....

What are the specs on your 'more powerful powersupply'? Many posts on this site regarding 6800's and underpowered, formerly powerful, power supplies.

This board has onboard graphics processor. Did you try removing the 6800, and seeing if the onboard video also generates the artifacts?

Is there a BIOS setting that will allow you to disable onboard video just before reinstalling the card? (Maybe Graphics Adapter Priority?).

Using FRAPS? If so, try disabling it.

I noticed that the users manual for the ECS 755-A, which uses SIS chips, is very similar to the manual for the K8S-MX regarding system parameters and capabilities. Maybe expand your site queries to take in other Athlon64 capable SIS boards.
