I have an old asus k8n-e. I've been running it with 1GB of memory, but decided to upgrade it to 2 GB. I went with http://www.newegg.com/product/...x?item=N82E16820227210. Popped it in and they work fine. Except for one problem. My motherboard is running them at 333 instead of 400. It was able to run my old memory at 400. Is there a reason it would run this memory at 333?

Your motherboard is probably running them at 333 because that's linked to the HT of your processor. Your motherboard may infact have been running the original stick at 333 even if it's rated for 400.

hmm. According to CPUID my Bus is 200MHz and my HT Link is 800Mhz. So what would cause the memory to run at 166/333?

I used to have a K8N-E and if I recall correctly, the speed drops with multiple modules for better stability.

mechBgon, absolutely correct. I took one module out and it went back to 400. Any way to force it 400 with 2 modules or is that hard coded into it?

You can manually force it to 400 in the BIOS, I think it's in JumperFree Configuration.
