Hey guys, I'm about to build a computer, and I need a reccomendation on a motherboard. I've narrowed it to these 2 motherboards. I plan to pair it w/ an AMD Athlon64 3000+ and 1GB of OCZ Gold Edition Rev2 PC4000 memory. I need a board that'll be stable at O/Cing, I plan to hit 2500MHz via 250HTT / 10x Multiplier. Also these boards have an AGP/PCI lock correct? I didn't see it mentioned on neweggs specs for the boards.

both have pci lock, both shouldnt have a problem hiting 250 * 10 (need to drop htt from 4 to 3), though unless you get a 1.05 revision the asus wont likely reach that with memory at 1:1, at leas not with the current bios. Hitting 250 * 10 with a 3000+ will involve either very good cooling (high end air should be fine) or a little luck. Asus tends to be more reliable (significantly more reliable) then msi, so board is more likely to work out of the box and to work for a long period of time.

Drop htt from 4 to 3? Can you explain that please, sorry this'll be my first time for everything. Also why wont the ASUS hit that w/ memory at 1:1? The OCZ Gold Edition Rev2 is rated at 250Mhz. Can you tell me what cooling I need to hit 2.5GHz on air? Heres the cooling I have planned. Zalman AlCu HSF, 4 80mm case fans, and a 120mm case fan. That's about it, do i need anything else? Please advise

He means that the Asus board does not go above 2.7 ram voltage. You should be fine though at 2.7 . You will need to drop HT to 3 most likely. As for cooling, it all depends how you set them up.

I'd go as far as putting HTT multiplier at 1x if you're reaching for a very high OC.

Tests have shown little performance differences, and in some instances 1X performs better than 4x.

Im aiming to do this. Athlon64 3000+ w/ Zalman AlCu HSF, 5 case fans including 1 120mm one. I'm aiming for 2.5GHz w/ OCZ Gold Edition Rev2 PC4000 (DDR500) RAM. Is this going to be good enough?
