I've read the new review done on the 3 new 754 boards. I've has an Asus in the past I was very happy with it and I think I've decided on getting the Asus k8n-e deluxe.
I was just wondering if any one would have any recommendations as the the type of memory, video, power supply/case, and chip to get for it.

Currently I was thinking the 64 AMD 3200+ would be good because that's what Anandtech did the testing with and it seemed to perform pretty well out of the box. I was also thinking about getting the same video card and memory they used for the test too. But I was wanting some advice as to what I should get/not get for memory. What do all the crazy thing with memory mean?

I'm not a big over clocker...but I would like to give it try latter down the road, but basically for right now I want a computer that's stable and up and running for me to use for school, but yet to be able to make it go faster eventually.
Any suggestions would be appreciative.

here are the specks for the Cpu I'm looking at:
Core: Newcastle
Operating Frequency: 2.2GHz
FSB: Integrated int chip
Cache: Level 1 64KB+64KB; Level 2 512KB
Voltage: 1.5V
Process: 0.13 Micron
Socket: Socket 754
Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2, 3DNOW!, 3DNOW!+
with Heatsink and Fan

I was wondering there is another Cpu that says 1m.

AMD Athlon 64 (754) DTR 3200+ 1MB $229.95.

I was just wondering what's the diff between the two..or how do I get the better end 3200+ cpu?

Whatever you do, get a high-quality brand of power supply, such as Enermax, PC Power & Cooling, Antec or Fortron, and my advice is to overdo it in the wattage department a little too :D Doesn't hurt, doesn't cost a ton extra in absolute terms, and who knows... overkill today might be "just right" later. :)

Thanks for your post. I'm looking for power supplys now. What about memory. There seems to be so many to choice from, how can/do I know when on will be right for me. I'm really not wanting to spend a a whol lot on mem, but maxing out at about..$150 or $200 for two sticks...what would be a good bet for me to go with?

I was looking at newegg to see how much the memory cost that Anandtech used in the test they did and the mem they used look expsensive also the powersuply they used goes for $125 at newegg. I was just wanting to know what Geil Ultra Series Value Dual Channel 184 Pin 2GB(2x 1GB) DDR PC-3200 w/ Blue Heatspreader vs Geil Ultra Series Value 184-Pin 1GB DDR PC-3200 w/ Blue Heatspreader - Retail and so on..ther are so many..I mean it's a big no brainer..that the price is very diffrent...but I"m not wanting to spend a whole lot on this...I'm wantin to build this computer for no more than $500.

What would you suggest or can you tell me about all the diffrent kinds of mem I can get?

You complicate things by wanting it cheap, yet potentially overclockable :p

I have a K8N-E Deluxe and I use a couple of these Corsair XMS 3200C2 modules at 2.6 volts on it, but I don't bother OC'ing so I didn't try to field that question. If I hadn't had those modules left over from the previous system, I probably would've gone with something a little less fancy, but I do know they're good for up to 220MHz if the mobo can take it. More specs here if you wanted to see what else is in there.

I personally would choose Corsair, Mushkin, Kingston or Crucial modules, but everyone has his own biases, so that's just mine. :)

i have the K8N-E Deluxe and a A64 3200 (newcastle) i have geil pc3200 ram a 6800gt and a beautiful enermax 475 watt noise taker.....this board is rock solid....its engineered like a tank!!! everything was a breeze to install and i had no compatabillity issues with ram or graphics or anything!!!

they have stock overclockin presets in the bios....i jus set mine to 10% and now im doing just over 2.4ghz, with is 3400.

u wil need the latest bios in order to overclock fully as they left out a few vital options in the earlier releases..namely control over the HTT multiplier.

the only prob i had and its not even a big one is that i bought a zalman cnps7000B Cu heatsink, this needs a back plate installing on the back of the board where the cpu is. trouble was asus being good an covering all bases. they had already pre-installed a backplate to the board and it was glued on!!! so it wont come off....but the back plate is slighty incompatible with zalmans cooler. the nipples that the hsf screws into sit too high on asus back plate an the HSF never made contact with the cpu!

easy to solve tho....forget bout the nipples and the black retaining shroud, jus take the two long screws out of the black retainer and scree the HSF directly to the ASUS backplate...problem solved and my temps are nice an low 36 degrees for a 10% oc.

i highly reccommend this board.

I just put together an A64 system with an ASUS K8N-E motherboard and it's rock solid. I have always had good luck with ASUS boards. They are stable and everything works on them without problems. The K8N-E is a moderate overclocking board. There are better boards out there for OC'ing but I have my 3200+ newcastle OC'd to 2.42ghz and am content with that for now.

For memory I am using Crucial Ballistix.. 2 sticks of 512 for 1GB total. Timings are 2.5 2 2 8 at 220mhz. I've run Prime95 for a couple hours and memtest86 and no errors. I hear OCZ EB series is good memory too for the A64. That corsair memory that was recommended above is good too.

Make sure if you do get the ASUS board, update the BIOS to the latest version.. a lot of the K8N-E's ship with the earliest version and the later versions fix things and add stability. Good luck.

this just in:

I saw that MonarchComputers has all the MODs I want with only a slight increase in price and for $18 they will test the system for me.
I went to put in the CPU I wanted which is the amd 64 3200+in box with fan and this pop up box came on saying that they can't gareentee which version of the smd 64 3200+ I will get. As in eaither I will get the 512 or the 1mb, but 90% of there stock is the 1mb. This motherboard is sockit 754.
I was just wanting to know is there a really big deal between the 512 or the 1mb or which on is better?

Here's what I"m putting together:

Pre-Tested and Setup AMD Athlon 64/Sempron (754) Barebones System $18.00 $18.00
Case: 100559 - No PS - Logisys CS888CL Clear Acrylic Cas $69.00 $69.00
Power Supply: 100117 - PS 520W - OCZ OCZ520ADJ PowerStream PS $122.00 $122.00

Processor: 120736 - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Retail Box-w-Fan) $214.00 $214.00
Heatsink Fan: None
Thermal Grease: 800018 - Shin-Etsu G675 Thermal Grease (Cools CPU $13.00 $13.00
Memory: 140693 - DDR (400) 3200 - 1 GB (2 pcs 512) OCZ (OC $179.00 $179.00
2nd Memory: None
Warranty: 800037 - Motherboard-CPU Warranty - 6 Month

Far Cry Promotion: 270846 - FREE Full DVD Version of Far Cry - $39.95
Subtotal for 800075 with your selected options: $752.00

any advice or sujection are very welcome. I'm really new to this...and I do have a budget...and this isn't even including a video card....I'm really not wanting to go over $700...but let me know what you all think.

If you wish to stay below 700 then I suggest you go the XP route instead. You might also want to skim down on the psu, 120 dollars is ludicrous.

- drop the thermal grease - the crap that comes pre-applied onto the retail heatsink is good enough for a non-overclocker. or even a +500mhz overclock (heh) (apparently it is Shin Etsu anyways!)
- drop Far Cry (?)
- drop the OCZ power supply, get the Antec EG465P instead ... should save you 40 bux at least
- if you're not overclocking, that OCZ RAM isn't really necessary.

I've just built a computer around K8N-E Deluxe and here's what I got:

RAM - Kingston HyperX 2x512 MB DDR434: runs with CAS 2.5 @ DDR434 and CAS 2.0 @ DDR400. Nice, stable, fast and good-looking memory.

Video card - Leadtek A400 GT TDH (GeForce 6800 GT): relatively quiet, very well cooled and really fast card. 2 slot design though, this baby is a real heavyweight.

PSU - Be Quiet! 450W ColorLine: better test results than e.g. Antecs or Thermaltakes, plus great looks (polished, titanium-covered case, golden fan grills, blue LED fans) and really ultra quiet.

Case - Aerocool Aeroengine Jr black: a very cool-looking case with 3 large blue LED fans with rpm regulation, unique design, low weight (steel case but almost as light as alu cases), front panel, thumbscrews for side panels and window. No toolless gimmicks inside though.

CPU - Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle. Best bang for the buck IMO.

I would recommend the above cfg, it's really OK.

The value ram in cas 3 right? If so, then you should return it and go for a 2.5 from OCZ, Mushkin, Geil etc.

Hi all , totally new to this whole pc and building game, was always easier to pay someone else to sort it 🤣 so please forgive my lack of knowledge, I'm just trying to fix my old gaming pc, the power supply died and it has sat in the cupboard up till now,
it's the k8ne deluxe bord, I got a new power supply and fitted it, now the bord is getting power , cpu fan still spins up but getting no display out of my card,
power and reset buttons don't appear to be doing anything, so have to turn of supply to cut power ? it's an old ASUS NVIDIA GEFORCE 6800 128MB, any help would be most appreciated 👍
