Hello, I just got this board last week with an Athlon 3000+ 64 bit chip and 2 200 Gig SATA Seagate Barracuda HD's.

I've just put it all together finally on a new SKULL VM3000A Thermaltake Case (very nice) with an Enermax 350 Watt ATX-E PSU.

System setup:
AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ PROCESSOR S754 2.0GHZ 512KB L2 CACHE RETAIL BOX
ASUS K8N-E Deluxe mobo
2 x OCZ 512MB PC3200 DDR400 CAS2 3-3-6 184PIN W/ COPPER HEAT SPREADER
2 x SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.7 200GB SATA 8MB 7200RPM 8.5MS OEM
2 x DVD writers (Benq 822A and LG)
Sparkle Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128 RAM 4x AGP Video card
Thermaltake Skull VM 3000A Case
Enermax 350W 12V+ (EG365P-VE)

My hardware is very good. I booted up my system and I got a boot failure (via the vocal POST Reporter) stating "System Failed due to CPU overclocking". I could not enter BIOS, I could not do anything. The manual states "Check your CPU settings in the BIOS and make sure you only set to the recommended settings". Of course, I can't enter the BIOS to do anything, I never changed any settings from their factory default as it's my first time booting this system.

The green light on the mobo comes on. All the fans (about 4 internal, plus the PSU, motherboard, video card fans) all come on as well. So does my LCD display screen on the front of my case. I don't get any display to the monitor though, all I receive is the VOCAL POST message and that's it. ASUS recommends changing settings in my BIOS but I can't even enter the BIOS.

I rebooted, checked wires, rechecked wires, rechecked again. I/O off and On again, same result. Always a "System failed due to CPU overclocking" by the lady with the voice :)

Not sure what to do, or what to check. It's pretty crappy right now, trying to diagnose this :(

Is there some jumper settings I have to modify? Why would it be doing this on it's first boot? I haven't modified anything.

Any suggestions would be great.

Start by lightening the load on the PSU to just the mobo, CPU, one memory module, and the video card. No drives. Confirm that your ATX12V cable is plugged in, and that your keyboard is plugged into the keyboard port and not the mouse port. Now see if that gets you anywhere.

Sorry but this has nothing to do with your post. =X I was wondering if you can do me a favor and tell me if the backplate on your board is plastic or aluminum.

Not sure which of us you meant, but the backplate on the underside of my K8N-E Deluxe is steel.

Maybe they're referring to the plastic receiver that surrounds the CPU socket on the topside of the motherboard. That would make sense. I removed it to install my Alpha PAL8150.

It was the memory - I have cas 2.5 512 MB PC3200 OCZ models...

But one is Rev 2, and another is Rev 3.

Sigh, I can't use them togehter :(

At least it's booting and i can play around.

Thanks for your advice.

Bummer :( BTW, don't be shy about cranking the memory voltage up to 2.7-2.8 volts on those if you have any instability, AUTO voltage is often not the best pick for "fancy" PC3200.
