So I've had my Plextor px712sa for awhile now, and until 5 minutes ago I was pretty unimpressed. I had tried the nVidia SATA controller on both my old K8V and my current K8N-e Deluxe and CPU usage would always go to max whenever using it. Max read was around 4mb/sec, and when writing nero would keep falling into buffer underrun protection. I moved it over to the 4th port on the Silicon Image (sil3114) controller along with my 3x160gb Samsung Raid-0 array, and now its FAST 
With Plextools I was able to set the speed for max read, and suddenly in DVDShrink it's ripping at around 9.5mb/sec :shocked:
Lesson learned: Don't put Plextor SATA drives on nVidia controllers.
