ASUS: Is there a way to disable Q-Fan?

I've got two A7V333 boards and their AMD retail HSFs run particularly noisy on XP 1900s. I've used that same HSF on an MSI KT3 Ultra and it's not nearly as noisy (like half as audible). Is this due to ASUS's Q-Fan feature spinning the fans up too high? They cool plenty well as it is and I'm looking to get the fan speed down. Didn't see anything for it in the BIOS or on the CD that ASUS provided with the motherboards.

Was going to call ASUS's tech support, but it's after hours (not 24x7? :disgust: ). Please help!

Good news: You're right, I missed the Hardware Monitor section completely!
Bad news: No setting for Q-Fan, just to Monitor or Ignore the various temperatures, fan speeds and system voltages.

I guess your board doesnt support Q-Fan feature because that's where it should be. :(

So it's just always going to be on now? :( Is there any way I can disable it? If not, I'm going to sell these two.

You cant disable what's not enabled in the first place, your board doesnt have that feature.

And that feature when you have it slows down the fan RPM not faster.

Your board doesnt have Q-Fan.

ASUS product page has it listed too

I got no ideal why it's not in the bio then,it should be there in the monitoring section,I checked asus site for A7V333 not the X ver you have, could you have flashed your bios to the A7V333 instead of the A7V333-X ?

the plain A7V333 doesnt list Q-Fan in the features http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=a7v333 seems like the regular 333 doesnt have Q-fan.

Whoops, no I don't have the X version. I accidentally selected that model and totally missed that. Here is the correct product link. The special features don't show Q-Fan on there, but it more than clearly states that on the motherboard box (confirmed the correct model on the box as well) with a brief feature write-up on the back with the other special features it has. And I remember hearing this feature work in the past myself, but now it no longer does.

Should I flash the BIOS for the X model?

There ya go...Flash for a different model. HOly sh!t, I don't know. Sounds like fun. I did that on a Compag that has a Gigabyte board, but I don't know if I'd try it with something that mattered unless it was proven first.:D
