Asus HeatPipe Technology Questions?

I'm looking into motherboards for a new system build and saw that asus uses a heatpipe technology to cool the motherboard on some of the there higher end boards. I'm especially considering the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium. I was wondering how much of an advantage this technology really is or if a motherboard from another company with a fan would be just as adequate. Are there any long term benefits of not having a fan? Thanks, Rob

The little fan on the A8N-SLI Deluxe I know causes many problems with breaking down, noisy, and just crappy.. if you look at other topics related to these boards, you'll see that the heatpipe is a lot better than the little tiny fan included on the Deluxe.

Are motherboard fans in general prone to failure or just the asus ones? I'm wondering if I should get a motherboard with the heatpipe just for peace of mind later on down the road.

DFI is still using the fans but they seem to have had fewer problems than ASUS has had. ASUS wasnt the only company with problems but lately it seemed they had more than other manufacturers. Even if the chipset fan didnt break it was still rather noisy due to its high rpm spin. The heatpipe design, although not a new idea, was a solution to the fan problem and now with the A8N32 they improved the heatpipe even more supposedly. Other companies are going with the heatpipe as well. ABIT and MSI are now starting to use the heatpipe system with the new A8N32 mobo they are introducing from what I have heard so its a design thats catching on for this particular set up.

i have a deluxe and the chipset fan does die, supposedly they fixed the problem with an new revision of the board but if you really wanna find out what problems or gripes people have about the premium check out the forums on asus's website. good luck!

Yes. All chipset fans suck imo. I've owned 3 boards with chipsets fans and all 3 had died. I replaced the fans with passive heatsinks.

I agree100%. I went through 3 fans on my IC7 MAX-3, the heat pipe is a good move from Asus. I think the other manufacturers will follow suit soon.

It was one of the main reasons that i went with this board.
