grrrr, ive been navigating this beast for an hour trying to find possibly the most needed thing someone could want from that site in the year 2003:

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS UNDER WINDOWS XP!

im posting this here because maybe any other asus MOBO user could help me, i dont know where else to look seeing as their forum is now gone.: all i need to know is how to freakin update my BIOS with windows XP. i only could find the damn AFLASH BIOS utility by finding their FTP, NOWHERE could i find it on their actual site!!! then once i read the readme for that, it said to use DOS to do the old "format a: /s".....too bad Windows XP doesnt have DOS. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!

for crying out loud, i got drivers, manuals, bios files, but no instructions or readme's ANYWHERE!
i finally found the 'knowledge base' which is probably the best resource for each specific motherboard, but too bad the 'knowledge base' isnt located anywhere through their menus!! i simply found it by somewhere giving a link to it within one support article. ARGH!!!!!

then they have all these neat little utilities like AFLASH, MYLOGO, etc...that they rotate banners for on their support page each time you hit it.... but there is no way to get to a list of all those utilities from their main menus. ARGH!!!!

CMON ASUS, we're not all born with instinctual knowledge on how to do this stuff!

*sigh*

Yup, their site is awful, and I hated going to it so often for mobo updates and bios updates...

For a real update, and a great site, just hit that link at the top of this page, and get yourself an Abit board. Better board, better support (by far) and better website. I've had enough w/ Asus.

You want to download the latest version of ASUS Update, which updates your BIOS from within Windows.

Since I'm a nice guy and have too much time on my hands, here's the link:

ASUS Update

For future reference, this is found under Downloads, then Motherboards, then Utility.

:)

TheInvincibleMustard, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I got the updater.

I also emailed the webmaster at ASUS, and just gave them a bit of constructive feedback.
Honestly though, it just seems like theres this weird kind of disconnection/understanding of thoroughness between those Taiwanese web designers and American standards of web design or something. Im not being racist or anything, just asian websites always have a realllllly strange and confusing feel about them to me, someone who is used to navigating American websites. Come to think of it....alot of asian things are confusing to navigate to me (ie. their cities). Just a different sensibility I guess?

Hey, no prob. Been dealing with ASUS for many many years now, as well as plenty of Japanese/Taiwanese/Chinese/etc. websites ... and yes, they do seem to be laid out a little different, but I guess after monkeying around with them, one gets used to it or something. ;)

Anyway, glad to help.

UGH and might I add the server is SLOW AS HECK WHEN NAVIGATING!!!!!!

Asus may make great boards, but I could create something better...

I don't see the need for all HK/Taiwanese sites to have a LOT of flash everywhere that only hampers and creates poor navigation design....

On top of it their tech support forum is setup in probably the most difficult way to GET tech support...

20 bucks says if we lock monkeys in a room with a computer and feed him lukewarm water and stale bread he would create a better site in hopes of being freed... :disgust:

I like Epox's site...nice and clean and organized - whenever I update I usually wait till someone posts a direct link to the FTP from the boards...when my brother needs it he just visit's Epox's site and does it nice and fast...

Liveupdate to update bios within windows does not work for all boards. I have a P4C800-E and you have to have a dos floppy and use afudos.

The Asus Update for Win XP on an A7N8X worked just fine for me. I also dislike the Asus web site.

Do the M$ site aswell while you're at it... although it's gotten better it still is a pain in the ass to find something specific if it isn't DX9. WMP9 or IE6.

Yeah, their site just sucks. Their BIOS updater is nice, but it doesn't even work with their U.S. server for me. Not reassuring.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I've had better luck searching M$'s site with Google than their own search engine! ;)

Yes, the website looks bad, but there is a lot of support available from the site itself.
