It's a good price, but it's possible that might become the norm in a few weeks anyway.

Keeping track of all these GTX460 versions is difficult, but this seems to be the same model (i.e. ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5) that Newegg has in stock for $229.

No this is the highly overclocked version it is stock 800mhz core while the one currently on newegg is the standard 675mhz version. I am not sure if there are differences in the cooler design?

Well I jumped on this one, I'll be giving my Gtx 260 to my brother, so somewhat of a sidegrade for me but he gets a faster card and I get a cheap upgrade for not that much.

This gtx 460 is 40% faster then a gtx 260. Thats not a bad sidegrade.:D

Not only that it would match the gtx 470 performance with some extra o/c tweak of your own.
Great card for $$$.
Too bad I l already ordered a Gigabyte version before this sale came on.

470 is way too loud, for me anyway. 460 is supposed to be quieter than 5850. That alone makes it way more attractive :)

I wasn't kidding about trying to keep all these versions straight! :(

You talked me into this one; shipping date estimated as first week in September.

I guess I can put off my final new-build decision on a cpu/motherboard combo for a while longer.

Thanks!

Joined up just to spread the good word on this ASUS.

First, the Amazon model isn't the same as the New Egg model. The New Egg model is clocked at stock speeds, while the Amazon model is a TOP OC'd edition with a 775mhz core clock speed.

Second, I came across this thread and saw that it lacked quite a few of the links I've come across in the last day or so, so here's a collection of links and reviews that I've found:

A preview covering the basics of the cards:

http://www.coolcomputing.com/article.php?sid=4095

ASUS' listings of the cards (including dimensions):

http://event.asus.com/vga/2010/engtx460/

A brit review of the card from overclock3d. (EDIT: the link is blacked out, so just fill in the blanks with overclock3d and a net) They like the card aside from their quoted price point, which is about US$100 higher than the Amazon price. They also mention "Relatively Quiet Operation" as a Positive in their conclusion:

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/asus_geforce_gtx_460_1gb_directcu/2

This review covers the TOP 768gb version, and has a ton of benchmarks and charts. The most important of these probably is the Noise Level graphs, that show the TOP card as one of the quietest cards tested:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/3810/nvidias-geforce-gtx-460-part-2-the-vendor-cards/6

This review from Benchmark Reviews is absolutely glowing. The reviewer mentions quiet noise levels several times, including "Quiet cooling fan under loaded operation" as a PRO in his conclusion:

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...k=view&id=577&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=18

There is a review from TBreak, as well, but it's sort of an outlier in that it's the only one to say anything about atrocious noise levels. Everyone else says the card is relatively quiet, and the anandtech review backs that up with hard numbers (granted, with the 768mb version).

Info on this card is hard to come by, but the majority of the info out there seems to support that this card is at very least a good performer, and quite possibly one that beats out the 5850 and 265 on a regular basis. The largest negative I've found is that it exhausts air through the back AND front of the card, but that isn't anything good case airflow can't fix.

The amazon model is actually listed at 800mhz core clock. It's naming moniker is slightly different than other TOP editions - it says "overclockers edition" whereas the other TOP editions do not, so I think the amazon listing is accurate in saying it's 800mhz.

I just returned my (loud) Palit GTX 460 768mb. Looking for a faster/quieter/cooler card and definitely the 1GB version. From what I read it comes down to this one and EVGA. I know I can't go wrong with EVGA, but with the overclock, quietness, and temperatures this seems like a solid deal. Anyone know why it's 2 weeks out? Stocking problem or something else?

Then there's also the Gigabyte card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125333)

I ordered the Gigabyte on and I wished I had waited since the Asus overclock version did very well in oc'ing.
The Gigabyte has the dual cooling fans and comes slight factory o/c'ed already.

The Tech Specs section of the Amazon listing was incorrect. It was written poorly with several typos... it kind seemed like it was badly translated or something. It actually listed 800mhz core clock twice, and stated that it reached "115% performance" the first time and "118%" the 2nd time. Plus, the box itself says "Overclocked'" on it a few times, which might have been the source of the different name.

In any case, they've fixed the listing. If you go back they've edited the tech specs to sound like they were written by someone whose first language is English, and it now lists "775mhz" as the core clock speed.

Look at the image on Asus.com. The box says 118%, 800MHz Overclocked....

Haha wow, that it does. And it says right on that page "Over-clocked with 775 MHz engine clock for reaching 115% performance."

I guess that's the source of the different stats on the Amazon page? I mean, they've since changed them, but 800mhz is indeed a 118% overclock... The card is almost certainly 775mhz at 115%, though... Weird. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks either way.

Still thinking about jumping on this. $230 for a 1 gig card that you can overvolt is still pretty tempting. I'm broke as s**t right now though. Was thinking of doing a P55 SLI upgrade and using either my 260 or 8800 GTS 320 as a physx card.

I thought most cards can be overvolted, they all use the same VRMs.
