the search didn't find that model number on this forum, so here we are :p

i'm looking at going mobile, and i'll need a laptop for work and play. i'm not too concerned about the cpu for general use, but i'd need a decent gpu to lean on for games - the 870m/880m-equipped notebooks seem to be where it's at.

i'm considering the asus G750JS-DS71 but i haven't found many reviews (nothing on the main AT page). for games i'll use a respectable mouse and even a separate keyboard if needed. i think this model sits at a good spot - the higher tier asus is $520 more for the 880m i may or may not miss, a bluray drive i won't use and ram i don't need.

what are your thoughts on this machine, or 870m/880m? could you recommend alternatives? i will not be considering msi, razer or the premium-priced alienware choices.

1 thing i noticed is the drives are shipped all partitioned to hell.
why is this done?
is it an issue for me?
am i asking for disaster by reformatting/repartitioning/reinstalling?

TIA :D

Do not buy an ASUS G750JS-DS71, as I have a defective G750JW-DB71- a Republic of Gamers Laptop. Bought it new and used it for 7 days when the laptop would not turn on.. Sent it back on May 1 to the vendor (Xoticpc.com), which had favorable online reviews. They are quite helpful but the problem lies with ASUS. They could not fix it so sent it to ASUS where I understand they may have replaced the Motherboard. Took me 5 weeks to get it back. Have used it for two weeks when today the laptop shut down. Come to find out the battery would not charge when connected to the power cube. The laptop only works with electricity. The battery may charge to 5% and says it is not charging. Pulledout the plug and the laptop instantly turns off. I took the battery out, reinserted it and now its says it it is charging to 1% for well over an hour. The net is full of battery problems with ASUS laptop problems that ASUS knows about but apparently will not fix.. So, try some other vendor. Since I got the laptop in March, I may have used it for tops 3 weeks. I have never encountered a battery problem in any other laptops I have owned: Dell and Toshiba. My wife owns a cheap HP laptop and never a battery charging problem.
