asus g71 laptop

Save some money and check out the gaming laptops that ASUS offers through Best Buy.

Yes, I'm totally serious. You'll save a couple hundred dollars for the same thing.

nice..

G71 dual core vs G72 dual core & Quad core.

I'll have to admit the Best Buy's G72 are much cheaper than Newegg's G71. Unfortanetly, the G72 is not at my local Best Buy.

one thing tho. I've heard that the nvidia mobile gpus have heat issues. was that ever resolved with the GTX 260M to everyones satisfaction? I understand that it is a rough equivalent to the ATI 4850 & Nvidia 9800 gpus.

I've heard that ASUS customer support is rather poor.

Best Buy having Asus in their laptop lineup? interesting. That outfit never struck me as the sort to sell stuff from ASUS. When you think of Best Buy, you think of HP's & Toshibas & Sonys & Gateways. But ASUS in their lineup? that surprised me.

The GTX 260M is probably equivalent to a desktop 9800 GT.

ASUS's customer support... well, it depends who you compare them to. They're mediocre in my book - they at least respond to your inquiries, unlike some companies that pretend you never sent in an RMA request / complaint / question. They don't seem to be as easy-going and helpful as some stellar companies though, like Logitech and EVGA. I've heard HP and Acer are much more difficult to deal with.

Best Buy is smart to carry ASUS laptops. ASUS has a pretty nice gaming line that's well priced (on the bottom-end of things, anyway) and their UL series is absolutely excellent. If they keep up what they're doing now, I could see them being a major player in the next few years.

the specs on the G71 are better than the G72.

the nit with the G72 is their slower drives. I did miss out on getting the G72 Quad version which had the faster drives, they're now of out of stock.

Other than that the G72 resolution is more or less comparable to the MSI GT725 which as best I can tell no longer being carried by anyone despite being listed in google shop. I regret missing out on the newegg sale on the MSI GT725 on what was prolly the last unit 2 months ago.

I'm leaning towards the G71.

Is the warranty worth while getting for it? Newegg has a 2 year extended warranty in addition the the G71 units 2 year parts/labor warranty.
