Asus firmware or DD WRT?

Hey guys, I just got a new router, Asus RT-N66U

Was wondering if I should upgrade to DD WRT or just update to the latest Asus firmware? What are the advantages of DD WRT? I'm a total noob, please help!

I would personally stick with the vendor's firmware unless there is a specific feature in DD-WRT that is absent from the vendor's, like client-mode or netfilter tweaks or something.

If you just want to void the warranty and play around with a more open, feature rich firmware, OpenWRT has more to offer IMHO.

You might lose some router-specific functions like beamforming, etc. by switching firmware. Be sure of your need before choosing to do so.

I am using the Merlin right now on my RT-AC66U and so far I am quite happy. It is a slightly modified version of Asus's own firmware.

I have the worst luck ever. I just got around to setting up my router today as I was busy, plug it in, and it doesn't work. Power does not even come on. I plug in the adapter into the wall and it has a solid blue light. Once I plug it into the router the light starts to blink but very weak. I hit the power button on the router and nothing...

I called Asus tech support and the guy said I am the first person to ever report a problem like that. Needless to say, I'm exchanging the router. What fvckin luck!
