Asus F1A75-I Can't overclock.

I'm having no luck at all overclocking with this board and my A8-3850

It seems nomatter what I do in the bios my sata drives will not be seen by the OS when I try to boot
I can clock the cpu to 3.0 -> 3.2 -> 3.4GHz
but I can't actually use them ...

I just wanted an extra 100-300MHz so the performance would match my old computer ....
This is bothering me that I can't even get an extra 100MHz out of this setup, it has to be the worst overclock i've ever seen.

I read This "guide" and it seemed to be somewhat informative.

he suggests you can't overclock unless you use digital output with the apu ... i'm using a discreet card however. Do I really need to buy a new monitor just to overclock my cpu 100MHz ?!

I'm tempted to just throw this $1000 llano system in the trash and build an i5 if I can't get ANY oc at ALL 🙁
Or maybe purchase the asrock version of the mitx fm1, reviewers have claimed it overclocks to 3.4GHz easily and it has a vga output (which I need).

any ideas ?

Ok, I just ordered an ASRock A75M-ITX

freakin' asus
now I should be able to at the very least not have to run a discreet vid card

And hopefully the usb/sata are set right on this asrock board
I wanna see 3.2GHz+ clocks

btw rush processing and next day delivery, and still $20+ cheaper than asus

If I could ask- why did you get a 3850 if you are using a discrete gpu?

I didn't want to use the discreet video card
But when I purchased the asus board I didn't realize it was a DVI-D port instead of DVI-I
so I can't run my vga monitor with the motherboard
I purchased it 3 weeks ago.... too late to return it I suppose.

the asrock board has a vga connector, so i'll be able to not use the discreet video card (as I had originally planned)

BTW, How do you like that asrock H67M-ITX ?

Ah, I see. I have actually run into simialr problems before, so I can see how that is. Also, the FM1 has ddr3 Dimm support I noticed- whereas you'd have a hard time finding an AM3 DDR3 Dimm supporting board (as opposed to sodimm).

Anyway, I like the board. I bought it before they had Z68 ITX boards, and I was happy to find that they include a tuner utility so I can boost my 2600k to 3.8ghz (If you aren't familiar, no overclocking on non-P67 or Z68 chipsets). Really an unexpected boost, and I haven't felt the need to go buy a z68 board just yet.

I mean really, I don't see a difference in this setup over my Asus AM3 ITX setup it replaced (with said DDR3 Sodimms). It improved my encoding speeds a little bit over the 1090T, but not significantly. I got a good deal on the 2600k though, which is why I picked it up.

I got rid of the 6950 actually, and sitting in there now is a Xonar D2X (awesome btw). Don't do much gaming anymore...

Anyway, gl with the build man. I have had great experience with Asrock so far, so I'm sure you'll be lovin it for some time to come.

The asrock board got a corrupt bios within 2hrs of getting it ...
first bios setting I made to change the bclk and the system never came back on.
clr cmos, removing cmos battery, nothing helped.

typical symptoms of a junk board.
their EFI interface even had the X/Y axis reversed on the mouse, like they never even tested it.

So I gotta return the paper weight now and deal with this crap asus board

Just no happy endings for FM1 + llano
I'm not at all happy with this experience, looks like i'll have to build an i5 system afterall

See this post for how the RMA works out
